Hen 3-160 is reported in Belczynski et al.s (2000) catalog as a symbiotic binary system with M7 giant donor. Using $V$- and $I$-band photometry collected over 20 years we have found that the giant is a Mira variable pulsating with 242.5-day period. The period-luminosity relation locates Hen 3-160 at the distance of about 9.4 kpc, and its Galactic coordinates ($l=267.7^{circ}$, $b=-7.9^{circ}$) place it $sim$1.3 kpc above the disc. This position combined with relatively high proper motions (pm$_{rm{RA}}=-1.5$ mas yr$^{-1}$, pm$_{rm{DEC}}=+2.9$ mas yr$^{-1}$, Gaia DR2) indicates that Hen 3-160 has to be a Galactic extended thick-disc object. Our red optical and infrared spectra show the presence of ZrO and YO molecular bands that appear relatively strong compared to the TiO bands. Here we propose that the giant in this system is intrinsic S star, enriched in products of slow neutron capture processes occurring in its interior during an AGB phase which would make Hen 3-160 the first symbiotic system with Mira variable S star.

We performed photometry with a 1 minute time resolution of the symbiotic stars EF Aquilae, AG Pegasi and SU Lyncis in Johnson B and V band. Our observations of the symbiotic Mira-type star EF Aql demonstrate the presence of stochastic light variations with an amplitude of about 0.25 magnitudes on a time scale of 5 minutes. The observations prove the white dwarf nature of the hot component in the binary system. It is the 11th symbiotic star (among more than 200 symbiotic stars known in our Galaxy) which displays optical flickering. For SU Lyn we do not detect flickering with an amplitude above 0.03 mag in B band. For AG Peg, the amplitude of variability in B and V band is smaller than 0.05 mag and 0.04 mag respectively.

Hen 3-1341 is a symbiotic binary system consisting of a white dwarf and a red giant star that is one of about ten symbiotics that show hints of jets. The bipolar jets have been detected through displaced components of emission lines during its outburst from 1998 to 2004. These components disappeared when Hen 3-1341 reached quiescence. On February 23, 2012, Hen 3-1341 started a new outburst with the emergence of new bipolar jets on March 3, 2012. We observed Hen 3-1341 during quiescence with XMM-Newton in March 2010 with an effective exposure time of 46.8 ks and with Swift on March 8-11, 2012 as ToO observations with an effective exposure time of 10 ks in order to probe the interaction of the jet with the ambient medium and also the accretion onto the white dwarf. We fitted the XMM-Newton X-ray spectra with XSPEC and examined the X-ray and UV light curves. We report the detection of X-ray emission during quiescence from Hen 3-1341 with XMM-Newton. The spectrum can be fitted with an absorbed one-temperature plasma or an absorbed blackbody. We did not detect Hen 3-1341 during our short Swift exposure. Neither periodic or aperiodic X-ray nor UV variability were found. Our XMM-Newton data suggest that interaction of the residual jet with the interstellar medium might survive for a long time after outbursts and might be responsible for the observed X-ray emission during quiescence. Additional data are strongly needed to confirm these suggestions.
An incidental spectrum of the poorly studied long period variable EF Aquilae shows [O III] emission indicative of a symbiotic star. Strong GALEX detections in the UV reinforce this classification, providing overt evidence for the presence of the hot subluminous companion. Recent compilations of the photometric behavior strongly suggest that the cool component is a Mira variable. Thus EF Aql appears to be a member of the rare symbiotic Mira subgroup.
We present photometry and moderate-resolution spectroscopy of the luminous red variable [HBS2006] 40671 originally detected as a possible nova in the galaxy M33. We found that the star is a pulsating Mira-type variable with a long period of 665 days and an amplitude exceeding 7 mag in the R band. [HBS2006] 40671 is the first confirmed Mira-type star in M33. It is one of the most luminous Mira-type variables. In the K band its mean absolute magnitude is M_K = -9.5, its bolometric magnitude measured in the maximum light is also extreme, M_bol = -7.4. The spectral type of the star in the maximum is M2e - M3e. The heliocentric radial velocity of the star is -475 km/s. There is a big negative excess (-210~km/s) in radial velocity of [HBS2006] 40671 relative to the average radial velocity of stars in its neighborhood pointing at an exceptional peculiar motion of the star. All the extreme properties of the new Mira star make it important for further studies.
King, Modjaz, & Li (1999) discovered Nova 1999 in IC1613 at Lick Observatory. Both Fugazza et al. (2000) and Borissova et al. (2000) questioned this classification, because they were able to detect the star on images obtained in previous years. In infrared frames taken on Oct. 15, 1998, the Nova 1999 has (J-K) = 1.14 and K = 14.69 mag. Our light curve study, based primarily on 92 unfiltered Lick images, suggested that the object could be a Mira-type variable with a period of 640.7 days. This period is very close to that obtained by Fugazza et al. (2000) - 631 days. The star is overluminous with respect to the period-luminosity (PL) relation derived by Feast et al. (1989) for Mira variables in the LMC. At longer periods (P > 400 ~ days), many LMC Miras show such behavior and the PL relation appears to break down. It is possible that the situation in IC1613 is similar. An optical spectrum obtained with the Keck-II telescope shows features typical of M3Ie or M3IIIe stars. We conclude that the star is a normal long-period M-type Mira variable, the first such star confirmed in IC1613.
