The collective dipole mode is induced and measured in a spin-orbit (SO) coupled degenerate Fermi gas of $^{173}$Yb atoms. Using a differential optical Stark shift, we split the degeneracy of three hyperfine states in the ground manifold, and independently couple consecutive spin states with the equal Raman transitions. A relatively long-lived spin-orbit-coupled Fermi gas, readily being realized with a narrow optical transition, allows to explore a single-minimum dispersion where three minima of spin-1 system merge into and to monitor collective dipole modes of fermions in the strong coupling regime. The measured oscillation frequency of the dipole mode is compared with the semi-classical calculation in the single-particle regime. Our work should pave the way towards the characterization of spin-orbit-coupled fermions with large spin $s>frac{1}{2}$ in the strong coupling regime.

We investigate Rashba spin-orbit coupled Fermi gases in square optical lattice by using the determinant quantum Monte Carlo (DQMC) simulations which is free of the sign-problem. We show that the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thoules phase transition temperature is firstly enhanced and then suppressed by spin-orbit coupling in the strong attraction region. In the intermediate attraction region, spin-orbit coupling always suppresses the transition temperature. We also show that the spin susceptibility becomes anisotropic and retains finite values at zero temperature.
We discuss the superfluid properties of a Bose-Einstein condensed gas with spin-orbit coupling, recently realized in experiments. We find a finite normal fluid density $rho_n$ at zero temperature which turns out to be a function of the Raman coupling. In particular, the entire fluid becomes normal at the transition point from the zero momentum to the plane wave phase, even though the condensate fraction remains finite. We emphasize the crucial role played by the gapped branch of the elementary excitations and discuss its contributions to various sum rules. Finally, we prove that an independent definition of superfluid density $rho_s$, using the phase twist method, satisfies the equality $rho_n+rho_s=rho$, the total density, despite the breaking of Galilean invariance.
Understanding novel pairings in attractive degenerate Fermi gases is crucial for exploring rich superfluid physics. In this report, we reveal unconventional pairings induced by spin-orbit coupling (SOC) in a one-dimensional optical lattice, using a state-of-the-art density-matrix renormalization group method. When both bands are partially occupied, we find a strong competition between the interband Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) and intraband Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) pairings. In particular, for the weak and moderate SOC strengths, these two pairings can coexist, giving rise to a new phase called the FFLO-BCS phase, which exhibits a unique three-peak structure in pairing momentum distribution. For the strong SOC strength, the intraband BCS pairing always dominates in the whole parameter regime, including the half filling. We figure out the whole phase diagrams as functions of filling factor, SOC strength, and Zeeman field. Our results are qualitatively different from recent mean-field predictions. Finally, we address that our predictions could be observed in a weaker trapped potential.
We measure the collective excitation spectrum of a spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensate using Bragg spectroscopy. The spin-orbit coupling is generated by Raman dressing of atomic hyperfine states. When the Raman detuning is reduced, mode softening at a finite momentum is revealed, which provides insight towards a supersolid-like phase transition. We find that for the parameters of our system, this softening stops at a finite excitation gap and is symmetric under a sign change of the Raman detuning. Finally, using a moving barrier that is swept through the BEC, we also show the effect of the collective excitation on the fluid dynamics.

We study the fate of an impurity in a two-component, non-interacting Fermi gas under a non- Hermitian spin-orbit coupling (SOC) which is generated by dissipative Raman lasers. While SOC mixes the two spin species in the Fermi gas thus modifies the single-particle dispersions, we consider the case where the impurity only interacts with one of the spin species. As a result, spectral properties of the impurity constitute an ideal probe to the dissipative Fermi gas in the background. In particular, we show that dissipation destabilizes polarons in favor of molecular formation, consistent with previous few-body studies. The dissipative nature of the Fermi gas further leads to broadened peaks in the inverse radio-frequency spectra for both the attractive and repulsive polaron branches, which could serve as signals for experimental observation. Our results provides an exemplary scenario where the interplay of non-Hermiticity and interaction can be probed.
