The standard model of cosmology assumes that the Universe can be described to hover around a homogeneous-isotropic solution of Einsteins general theory of relativity. This description needs (sometimes hidden) hypotheses that restrict the generality, and relaxing these restrictions is the headline of a new physical approach to cosmology that refurnishes the cosmological framework. Considering a homogeneous geometry as a template geometry for the in reality highly inhomogeneous Universe must be considered a strong idealization. Unveiling the limitations of the standard model opens the door to rich consequences of general relativity, giving rise to effective (i.e. spatially averaged) cosmological models that may even explain the longstanding problems of dark energy and dark matter. We explore in this talk the influence of structure formation on average properties of the Universe by discussing: (i) general thoughts on why considering average properties, on the key-issue of non-conserved curvature, and on the global gravitational instability of the standard model of cosmology; (ii) the general set of cosmological equations arising from averaging the scalar parts of Einsteins equations, the generic property of structure formation interacting with the average properties of the Universe in a scale-dependent way, and the description of cosmological backreaction in terms of an effective scalar field.

We investigate the structure formation in the effective field theory of the holographic dark energy. The equation of motion for the energy contrast $delta_m$ of the cold dark matter is the same as the one in the general relativity up to the leading order in the small scale limit $kgg aH$, provided the equation of state is Quintessence-like. Our effective field theory breaks down while the equation of state becomes phantom-like. We propose a solution to this problem by eliminating the scalar graviton.
Dark energy is often assumed to be composed by a single scalar field. The background cosmic expansion is not sufficient to determine whether this is true or not. We study multi-field scalar-tensor models with a general dark matter source and write the observable modified gravity parameters (effective gravitational constant and anisotropic stress) in the form of a ratio of polynomials in the Fourier wavenumber k of order 2N, where N is the number of scalar fields. By comparing these observables to real data it is in principle possible to determine the number of dark energy scalar fields coupled to gravity. We also show that there are no realistic non-trivial cases in which the order of the polynomials is reduced.

We have found a mechanism which regulates the dark energy in our universe. With an emergent conformal symmetry, the dark energy density is regulated to the order of a conformal anomaly parameter in the conformally coupled gravity. In the late time cosmological evolution, we have obtained a set of exact cosmological equations which deviate from the Friedmann equations significantly. Based on the recent observational cosmic expansion data, it is shown that the dark energy density is about 1/4 of the matter density at present, which is quite smaller than determined by General Relativity. The jerk parameter at present is also determined as a definite value 0.47.
We discuss the exact solutions of brane universes and the results indicate the Friedmann equations on the branes are modified with a new density term. Then, we assume the new term as the density of dark energy. Using Wetterichs parametrization equation of state (EOS) of dark energy, we obtain the new term varies with the red-shift z. Finally, the evolutions of the mass density parameter $Omega_2$, dark energy density parameter $Omega_x$ and deceleration parameter q_2 are studied.
This paper is devoted to some simple approach based on general physics tools to describe the physical properties of a hypothetical particle which can be the source of dark energy in the Universe known as phantom. Phantom is characterized by the fact that it possesses negative momentum and kinetic energy and that it gives large negative pressure which acts as antigravity. We consider phantom harmonic oscillator in comparison to a standard harmonic oscillator. By using the first law of thermodynamics we explain why the energy density of the Universe grows when it is filled with phantom. We also show how the collision of phantom with a standard particle leads to exploration of energy from the former by the latter (i.e. from phantom to the standard) if their masses are different. The most striking of our conclusions is that the collision of phantom and standard particles of the same masses is impossible unless both of them are at rest and suddenly start moving with the opposite velocities and kinetic energies. This effect is a classic analogue of a quantum mechanical particle pair creation in a strong electric field or in physical vacuum.
