One-dimensional Bernoulli mapping with hole is suggested to describe the regularities of the appearance of a chaotic set under the saddle-node scenario of the birth of the Smale--Williams hyperbolic attractor. In such a mapping, a non-trivial chaotic set (with non-zero Hausdorff dimension) arises in the general case as a result of a cascade of period-adding bifurcations characterized by geometric scaling both in the phase space and in the parameter space. Numerical analysis of the behavior of models demonstrating the saddle-node scenario of birth of a hyperbolic chaotic Smale--Williams attractor shows that these regularities are preserved in the case of multidimensional systems. Limits of applicability of the approximate 1D model are discussed.

Formation or destruction of hyperbolic chaotic attractor under parameter variation is considered with an example represented by Smale--Williams solenoid in stroboscopic Poincar{e} map of two alternately excited non-autonomous van der Pol oscillators. The transition occupies a narrow but finite parameter interval and progresses in such way that periodic orbits constituting a skeleton of the attractor undergo saddle-node bifurcation events involving partner orbits from the attractor and from a non-attracting invariant set, which forms together with its stable manifold a basin boundary of the attractor.
The stickiness effect suffered by chaotic orbits diffusing in the phase space of a dynamical system is studied in this paper. Previous works have shown that the hyperbolic structures in the phase space play an essential role in causing the stickiness effect. We present in this paper the relationship between the stickiness effect and the geometric property of hyperbolic structures. Using a two-dimensional area-preserving twist mapping as the model, we develop the numerical algorithms for computing the positions of the hyperbolic periodic orbits and for calculating the angle between the stable and unstable manifolds of the hyperbolic periodic orbit. We show how the stickiness effect and the orbital diffusion speed are related to the angle.
The chimera state with co-existing coherent-incoherent dynamics has recently attracted a lot of attention due to its wide applicability. We investigate non-locally coupled identical chaotic maps with delayed interactions in the multiplex network framework and find that an interplay of delay and multiplexing brings about an enhanced or suppressed appearance of chimera state depending on the distribution as well as the parity of delay values in the layers. Additionally, we report a layer chimera state with an existence of one layer displaying coherent and another layer demonstrating incoherent dynamical evolution. The rich variety of dynamical behavior demonstrated here can be used to gain further insight into the real-world networks which inherently possess such multi-layer architecture with delayed interactions.
In this paper, we study the quantum dynamics of a one degree-of-freedom (DOF) Hamiltonian that is a normal form for a saddle node bifurcation of equilibrium points in phase space. The Hamiltonian has the form of the sum of kinetic energy and potential energy. The bifurcation parameter is in the potential energy function and its effect on the potential energy is to vary the depth of the potential well. The main focus is to evaluate the effect of the depth of the well on the quantum dynamics. This evaluation is carried out through the computation of energy eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the time-independent Schrodinger equations, expectation values and position uncertainties for position coordinate, and Wigner functions.
The Nikolaevskiy model for pattern formation with continuous symmetry exhibits spatiotemporal chaos with strong scale separation. Extensive numerical investigations of the chaotic attractor reveal unexpected scaling behavior of the long-wave modes. Surprisingly, the computed amplitude and correlation time scalings are found to differ from the values obtained by asymptotically consistent multiple-scale analysis. However, when higher-order corrections are added to the leading-order theory of Matthews and Cox, the anomalous scaling is recovered.
