We show for a certain class of operators $A$ and holomorphic functions $f$ that the functional calculus $Amapsto f(A)$ is holomorphic. Using this result we are able to prove that fractional Laplacians $(1+Delta^g)^p$ depend real analytically on the metric $g$ in suitable Sobolev topologies. As an application we obtain local well-posedness of the geodesic equation for fractional Sobolev metrics on the space of all Riemannian metrics.

This chapter reviews some past and recent developments in shape comparison and analysis of curves based on the computation of intrinsic Riemannian metrics on the space of curves modulo shape-preserving transformations. We summarize the general construction and theoretical properties of quotient elastic metrics for Euclidean as well as non-Euclidean curves before considering the special case of the square root velocity metric for which the expression of the resulting distance simplifies through a particular transformation. We then examine different numerical approaches that have been proposed to estimate such distances in practice and in particular to quotient out curve reparametrization in the resulting minimization problems.
We study the space of smooth Riemannian structures on compact three-manifolds with boundary that satisfies a critical point equation associated with a boundary value problem, for simplicity, Miao-Tam critical metrics. We provide an estimate to the area of the boundary of Miao-Tam critical metrics on compact three-manifolds. In addition, we obtain a Bochner type formula which enables us to show that a Miao-Tam critical metric on a compact three-manifold with positive scalar curvature must be isometric to a geodesic ball in $Bbb{S}^3.$
We study Riemannian metrics on Lie groupoids in the relative setting. We show that any split fibration between proper groupoids can be made Riemannian, and we use these metrics to linearize proper groupoid fibrations. As an application, we derive rigidity theorems for Lie groupoids, which unify, simplify and improve similar results for classic geometries. Then we establish the Morita invariance for our metrics, introduce a notion for metrics on stacks, and use them to construct stacky tubular neighborhoods and to prove a stacky Ehresmann theorem.

We construct a determinant of the Laplacian for infinite-area surfaces which are hyperbolic near infinity and without cusps. In the case of a convex co-compact hyperbolic metric, the determinant can be related to the Selberg zeta function and thus shown to be an entire function of order two with zeros at the eigenvalues and resonances of the Laplacian. In the hyperbolic near infinity case the determinant is analyzed through the zeta-regularized relative determinant for a conformal metric perturbation. We establish that this relative determinant is a ratio of entire functions of order two with divisor corresponding to eigenvalues and resonances of the perturbed and unperturbed metrics. These results are applied to the problem of compactness in the smooth topology for the class of metrics with a given set of eigenvalues and resonances.
A leafwise Hodge decomposition was proved by Sanguiao for Riemannian foliations of bounded geometry. Its proof is explained again in terms of our study of bounded geometry for Riemannian foliations. It is used to associate smoothing operators to foliated flows, and describe their Schwartz kernels. All of this is extended to a leafwise version of the Novikov differential complex.
