We present a coherent model that combines jet production from perturbative QCD with strongly-coupled jet-medium interactions described in holography. We use this model to study the modification of an ensemble of jets upon propagation through a quark-gluon plasma resembling central heavy ion collisions. Here the modification of the dijet asymmetry depends strongly on the subleading jet width, which can therefore be an important observable for studying jet-medium interactions. We furthermore show that the modification of the shape of the leading jet is relatively insensitive to the dijet asymmetry, whereas the subleading jet shape modification is much larger for more imbalanced dijets. Finally, we compare the results of our holographic model to a recent CMS measurement.

The striking suppression and modification patterns that are observed in jet observables measured in heavy-ion collisions with respect to the proton-proton baseline have the potential to constrain the spatio-temporal branching process of energetic partons in a dense QCD medium. The mechanism of jet energy loss is intricately associated with medium resolution of jet substructure fluctuations. This naturally affects the behavior of the suppression of jets at high-pT, inducing an explicit dependence on jet scales. In this contribution, we review recent work on using the insight from multi-parton quenching to calculate leading-logarithmic corrections to the single-inclusive jet spectrum, and discuss its impact on a wide range of observables, including jet substructure.
We study the single spin asymmetry in the back-to-back dijet production in transversely polarized proton-proton collisions. Such an asymmetry is generated by the Sivers functions in the incoming polarized proton. We propose a QCD formalism in terms of the transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions, which allow us to resum the large logarithms that arise in the perturbative calculations. We make predictions for the Sivers asymmetry of hadronic dijet production at the kinematic region that is relevant to the experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). We further compute the spin asymmetries in the selected positive and negative jet charge bins, to separate the contributions from $u$- and $d$-quark Sivers functions. We find that both the sign and size of our numerical results are roughly consistent with the preliminary results from the STAR collaboration at the RHIC.
Some of the most important probes of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) produced in heavy ion collisions come from the analysis of how the shape and energy of jets are modified by passage through QGP. We model an ensemble of back-to-back dijets to gain a qualitative understanding of how the shapes of the individual jets and the asymmetry in the energy of the pairs of jets are modified by passage through an expanding droplet of strongly coupled plasma, as modeled in a holographic gauge theory. We do so by constructing an ensemble of strings in the gravitational description of the gauge theory. We model QCD jets in vacuum using strings whose endpoints move downward into the gravitational bulk spacetime with some fixed small angle that represents the opening angle (ratio of jet mass to jet energy) that the QCD jet would have in vacuum. Such strings must be moving through the gravitational bulk at (close to) the speed of light; they must be (close to) null. This condition does not specify the energy distribution along the string, meaning that it does not specify the shape of the jet being modeled. We study the dynamics of strings that are initially not null and show that strings with a wide range of initial conditions rapidly accelerate and become null and, as they do, develop a similar distribution of their energy density. We use this distribution of the energy density along the string, choose an ensemble of strings whose opening angles and energies are distributed as in perturbative QCD, and show that we can then fix one model parameter such that the mean jet shape in our ensemble matches that measured in p-p collisions reasonably well. We send our strings through the plasma, choosing the second model parameter to get a reasonable suppression in the number of jets, and study how the mean jet shape and the dijet asymmetry are modified, comparing both to data from LHC heavy ion collisions.
We investigate the effect of soft gluon radiations on the azimuthal angle correlation between the total and relative momenta of two jets in inclusive and exclusive dijet processes. We show that the final state effect induces a sizable $cos(2phi)$ anisotropy due to gluon emissions near the jet cones. The phenomenological consequences of this observation are discussed for various collider experiments, including diffractive processes in ultraperipheral $pA$ and $AA$ collisions, inclusive and diffractive dijet production at the EIC, and inclusive dijet in $pp$ and $AA$ collisions at the LHC.

We present a first, detailed study of diffractive dijet photoproduction at the recently approved electron-ion collider (EIC) at BNL. Apart from establishing the kinematic reaches for various beam types, energies and kinematic cuts, we make precise predictions at next-to-leading order (NLO) of QCD in the most important kinematic variables. We show that the EIC will provide new and more precise information on the diffractive parton density functions (PDFs) in the pomeron than previously obtained at HERA, illuminate the still disputed mechanism of global vs. only resolved-photon factorization breaking, and provide access to a completely new quantity, i.e. nuclear diffractive PDFs.
