In this paper, we present an eleven invariant isotropic irreducible function basis of a third order three-dimensional symmetric tensor. This irreducible function basis is a proper subset of the Olive-Auffray minimal isotropic integrity basis of that tensor. The octic invariant and a sextic invariant in the Olive-Auffray integrity basis are dropped out. This result is of significance to the further research of irreducible function bases of higher order tensors.

The Hall tensor emerges from the study of the Hall effect, an important magnetic effect observed in electric conductors and semiconductors. The Hall tensor is third order and three dimensional, whose first two indices are skew-symmetric. In this paper, we investigate the isotropic polynomial invariants of the Hall tensor by connecting it with a second order tensor via the third order Levi-Civita tensor. We propose a minimal isotropic integrity basis with 10 invariants for the Hall tensor. Furthermore, we prove that this minimal integrity basis is also an irreducible isotropic function basis of the Hall tensor.
In this paper, we seek analytically checkable necessary and sufficient condition for copositivity of a three-dimensional symmetric tensor. We first show that for a general third order three-dimensional symmetric tensor, this means to solve a quartic equation and some quadratic equations. All of them can be solved analytically. Thus, we present an analytical way to check copositivity of a third order three dimensional symmetric tensor. Then, we consider a model of vacuum stability for $mathbb{Z}_3$ scalar dark matter. This is a special fourth order three-dimensional symmetric tensor. We show that an analytically expressed necessary and sufficient condition for this model bounded from below can be given, by using a result given by Ulrich and Watson in 1994.

The Laguerre functions constitute one of the fundamental basis sets for calculations in atomic and molecular electron-structure theory, with applications in hadronic and nuclear theory as well. While similar in form to the Coulomb bound-state eigenfunctions (from the Schroedinger eigenproblem) or the Coulomb-Sturmian functions (from a related Sturm-Liouville problem), the Laguerre functions, unlike these former functions, constitute a complete, discrete, orthonormal set for square-integrable functions in three dimensions. We construct the SU(1,1)xSO(3) dynamical algebra for the Laguerre functions and apply the ideas of factorization (or supersymmetric quantum mechanics) to derive shift operators for these functions. We use the resulting algebraic framework to derive analytic expressions for matrix elements of several basic radial operators (involving powers of the radial coordinate and radial derivative) in the Laguerre function basis. We illustrate how matrix elements for more general spherical tensor operators in three dimensional space, such as the gradient, may then be constructed from these radial matrix elements.
Irreducible bilinear tensorial concomitants of an arbitrary complex antisymmetric valence-2 tensor are derived in four-dimensional spacetime. In addition these bilinear concomitants are symmetric (or antisymmetric), self-dual (or anti-self-dual), and hermitian forms in the antisymmetric tensor. An important example of an antisymmetric valence-2 tensor, or bivector, is the electromagnetic field strength tensor which ordinarily is taken to be real-valued. In generalizing to complex-valued bivectors, the authors find the hermitian fo
It was shown by Kuperberg that the partition function of the square-ice model related to the quarter-turn symmetric alternating-sign matrices of even order is the product of two similar factors. We propose a square-ice model whose states are in bijection with the quarter-turn symmetric alternating-sign matrices of odd order, and show that the partition function of this model can be also written in a similar way. This allows to prove, in particular, the conjectures by Robbins related to the enumeration of the quarter-turn symmetric alternating-sign matrices.
