A trademark is a mark used to identify various commodities. If same or similar trademark is registered for the same or similar commodity, the purchaser of the goods may be confused. Therefore, in the process of trademark registration examination, the examiner judges whether the trademark is the same or similar to the other applied or registered trademarks. The confusion in trademarks is based on the visual, phonetic or conceptual similarity of the marks. In this paper, we focus specifically on the phonetic similarity between trademarks. We propose a method to generate 2D phonetic feature for convolutional neural network in assessment of trademark similarity. This proposed algorithm is tested with 12,553 trademark phonetic similar pairs and 34,020 trademark phonetic non-similar pairs from 2010 to 2016. As a result, we have obtained approximately 92% judgment accuracy.

Attempts to develop speech enhancement algorithms with improved speech intelligibility for cochlear implant (CI) users have met with limited success. To improve speech enhancement methods for CI users, we propose to perform speech enhancement in a cochlear filter-bank feature space, a feature-set specifically designed for CI users based on CI auditory stimuli. We leverage a convolutional neural network (CNN) to extract both stationary and non-stationary components of environmental acoustics and speech. We propose three CNN architectures: (1) vanilla CNN that directly generates the enhanced signal; (2) spectral-subtraction-style CNN (SS-CNN) that first predicts noise and then generates the enhanced signal by subtracting noise from the noisy signal; (3) Wiener-style CNN (Wiener-CNN) that generates an optimal mask for suppressing noise. An important problem of the proposed networks is that they introduce considerable delays, which limits their real-time application for CI users. To address this, this study also considers causal variations of these networks. Our experiments show that the proposed networks (both causal and non-causal forms) achieve significant improvement over existing baseline systems. We also found that causal Wiener-CNN outperforms other networks, and leads to the best overall envelope coefficient measure (ECM). The proposed algorithms represent a viable option for implementation on the CCi-MOBILE research platform as a pre-processor for CI users in naturalistic environments.
Cross-lingual voice conversion (VC) is an important and challenging problem due to significant mismatches of the phonetic set and the speech prosody of different languages. In this paper, we build upon the neural text-to-speech (TTS) model, i.e., FastSpeech, and LPCNet neural vocoder to design a new cross-lingual VC framework named FastSpeech-VC. We address the mismatches of the phonetic set and the speech prosody by applying Phonetic PosteriorGrams (PPGs), which have been proved to bridge across speaker and language boundaries. Moreover, we add normalized logarithm-scale fundamental frequency (Log-F0) to further compensate for the prosodic mismatches and significantly improve naturalness. Our experiments on English and Mandarin languages demonstrate that with only mono-lingual corpus, the proposed FastSpeech-VC can achieve high quality converted speech with mean opinion score (MOS) close to the professional records while maintaining good speaker similarity. Compared to the baselines using Tacotron2 and Transformer TTS models, the FastSpeech-VC can achieve controllable converted speech rate and much faster inference speed. More importantly, the FastSpeech-VC can easily be adapted to a speaker with limited training utterances.
This paper presents a Depthwise Disout Convolutional Neural Network (DD-CNN) for the detection and classification of urban acoustic scenes. Specifically, we use log-mel as feature representations of acoustic signals for the inputs of our network. In the proposed DD-CNN, depthwise separable convolution is used to reduce the network complexity. Besides, SpecAugment and Disout are used for further performance boosting. Experimental results demonstrate that our DD-CNN can learn discriminative acoustic characteristics from audio fragments and effectively reduce the network complexity. Our DD-CNN was used for the low-complexity acoustic scene classification task of the DCASE2020 Challenge, which achieves 92.04% accuracy on the validation set.
We previously established a large lung sound database, HF_Lung_V2 (Lung_V2). We trained convolutional-bidirectional gated recurrent unit (CNN-BiGRU) networks for detecting inhalation, exhalation, continuous adventitious sound (CAS) and discontinuous adventitious sound at the recording level on the basis of Lung_V2. However, the performance of CAS detection was poor due to many reasons, one of which is the highly diversified CAS patterns. To make the original CNN-BiGRU model learn the CAS patterns more effectively and not cause too much computing burden, three strategies involving minimal modifications of the network architecture of the CNN layers were investigated: (1) making the CNN layers a bit deeper by using the residual blocks, (2) making the CNN layers a bit wider by increasing the number of CNN kernels, and (3) separating the feature input into multiple paths (the model was denoted by Multi-path CNN-BiGRU). The performance of CAS segment and event detection were evaluated. Results showed that improvement in CAS detection was observed among all the proposed architecture-modified models. The F1 score for CAS event detection of the proposed models increased from 0.445 to 0.491-0.530, which was deemed significant. However, the Multi-path CNN-BiGRU model outperformed the other models in terms of the number of winning titles (five) in total nine evaluation metrics. In addition, the Multi-path CNN-BiGRU model did not cause extra computing burden (0.97-fold inference time) compared to the original CNN-BiGRU model. Conclusively, the Multi-path CNN layers can efficiently improve the effectiveness of feature extraction and subsequently result in better CAS detection.
Near-field Acoustic Holography (NAH) is a well-known problem aimed at estimating the vibrational velocity field of a structure by means of acoustic measurements. In this paper, we propose a NAH technique based on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The devised CNN predicts the vibrational field on the surface of arbitrary shaped plates (violin plates) with orthotropic material properties from a limited number of measurements. In particular, the architecture, named Super Resolution CNN (SRCNN), is able to estimate the vibrational field with a higher spatial resolution compared to the input pressure. The pressure and velocity datasets have been generated through Finite Element Method simulations. We validate the proposed method by comparing the estimates with the synthesized ground truth and with a state-of-the-art technique. Moreover, we evaluate the robustness of the devised network against noisy input data.
