This paper is concerned with diffusive approximations of peculiar numerical schemes for several linear (or weakly nonlinear) kinetic models which are motivated by wide-range applications, including radiative transfer or neutron transport, run-and-tumble models of chemotaxis dynamics, and Vlasov-Fokker-Planck plasma modeling. The well-balanced method applied to such kinetic equations leads to time-marching schemes involving a scattering S-matrix , itself derived from a normal modes decomposition of the stationary solution. One common feature these models share is the type of diffusive approximation: their macroscopic densities solve drift-diffusion systems, for which a distinguished numerical scheme is Ilin/Scharfetter-Gummels exponential fitting discretization. We prove that the well-balanced schemes relax, within a parabolic rescaling, towards the Ilin exponential-fitting discretization by means of an appropriate decomposition of the S-matrix. This is the so-called asymptotic preserving (or uniformly accurate) property.

This paper is devoted to diffusion limits of linear Boltzmann equations. When the equilibrium distribution function is Maxwellian distribution, it is well known that for an appropriate time scale, the small mean free path limit gives rise to a diffusion equation. In this paper, we consider situations in which the equilibrium distribution function is a heavy-tailed distribution with infinite variance. We then show that for an appropriate time scale, the small mean free path limit gives rise to a fractional diffusion equation.
Kinetic-transport equations that take into account the intra-cellular pathways are now considered as the correct description of bacterial chemotaxis by run and tumble. Recent mathematical studies have shown their interest and their relations to more standard models. Macroscopic equations of Keller-Segel type have been derived using parabolic scaling. Due to the randomness of receptor methylation or intra-cellular chemical reactions, noise occurs in the signaling pathways and affects the tumbling rate. Then, comes the question to understand the role of an internal noise on the behavior of the full population. In this paper we consider a kinetic model for chemotaxis which includes biochemical pathway with noises. We show that under proper scaling and conditions on the tumbling frequency as well as the form of noise, fractional diffusion can arise in the macroscopic limits of the kinetic equation. This gives a new mathematical theory about how long jumps can be due to the internal noise of the bacteria.

We discuss a method to construct Dirac-harmonic maps developed by J.~Jost, X.~Mo and M.~Zhu in J.~Jost, X.~Mo, M.~Zhu, emph{Some explicit constructions of Dirac-harmonic maps}, J. Geom. Phys. textbf{59} (2009), no. 11, 1512--1527.The method uses harmonic spinors and twistor spinors, and mainly applies to Dirac-harmonic maps of codimension $1$ with target spaces of constant sectional curvature. Before the present article, it remained unclear when the conditions of the theorems in J.~Jost, X.~Mo, M.~Zhu, emph{Some explicit constructions of Dirac-harmonic maps}, J. Geom. Phys. textbf{59} (2009), no. 11, 1512--1527, were fulfilled. We show that for isometric immersions into spaceforms, these conditions are fulfilled only under special assumptions. In several cases we show the existence of solutions.
In this paper we present and implement the Palindromic Discontinuous Galerkin (PDG) method in dimensions higher than one. The method has already been exposed and tested in [4] in the one-dimensional context. The PDG method is a general implicit high order method for approximating systems of conservation laws. It relies on a kinetic interpretation of the conservation laws containing stiff relaxation terms. The kinetic system is approximated with an asymptotic-preserving high order DG method. We describe the parallel implementation of the method, based on the StarPU runtime library. Then we apply it on preliminary test cases.
We investigate the numerical discretization of a two-stream kinetic system with an internal state, such system has been introduced to model the motion of cells by chemotaxis. This internal state models the intracellular methylation level. It adds a variable in the mathematical model, which makes it more challenging to simulate numerically. Moreover, it has been shown that the macroscopic or mesoscopic quantities computed from this system converge to the Keller-Segel system at diffusive scaling or to the velocity-jump kinetic system for chemotaxis at hyperbolic scaling. Then we pay attention to propose numerical schemes uniformly accurate with respect to the scaling parameter. We show that these schemes converge to some limiting schemes which are consistent with the limiting macroscopic or kinetic system. This study is illustrated with some numerical simulations and comparisons with Monte Carlo simulations.
