The exclusive photoproduction of $Upsilon (nS)$ states were calculated in ultra-peripheral collisions for coherent and incoherent process in PbPb at $sqrt{s_{NN}}$= 5.5 TeV. Different dipole models were compared in the theoretical framework of light-cone color dipole formalism. Moreover, it was calculated the differential cross section for the Upsilon states and their total cross section for two intervals of rapidity: $|y|leq 4$ 4 and $ 2 le$ y $le 4.5$. A systematic study is done on the theoretical uncertainties associated to the production and predictions are presented for the first time for the incoherent cross section of the radially excited states.

Using the general notion of cross section fluctuations in hadron--nucleus scattering at high energies, we derive an expression for the cross section of incoherent $J/psi$ photoproduction on heavy nuclei $dsigma_{gamma A to J/psi Y}/dt$, which includes both elastic $dsigma_{gamma p to J/psi p}/dt$ and proton-dissociation $dsigma_{gamma p to J/psi Y}/dt$ photoproduction on target nucleons. We find that with good accuracy, $dsigma_{gamma A to J/psi Y}/dt$ can be expressed as a product of the sum of the $dsigma_{gamma p to J/psi p}/dt$ and $dsigma_{gamma p to J/psi Y}/dt$ cross sections, which have been measured at HERA, and the common nuclear shadowing factor, which is calculated using the leading twist nuclear shadowing model. Our prediction for the cross section of incoherent $J/psi$ photoproduction in Pb-Pb UPCs at $sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV and $y=0$, $dsigma_{AA to J/psi AY}(y=0)/dy=0.59-1.24$ mb, agrees within significant theoretical uncertainties with the data of the ALICE collaboration.

We model effects of color fluctuations (CFs) in the light-cone photon wave function and for the first time make predictions for the distribution over the number of wounded nucleons $ u$ in the inelastic photon-nucleus scattering. We show that CFs lead to a dramatic enhancement of this distribution at $ u=1$ and large $ u > 10$. We also study the implications of different scales and CFs in the photon wave function on the total transverse energy $Sigma E_T$ and other observables in inelastic $gamma A$ scattering with different triggers. Our predictions can be tested in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC and will help to map CFs, whose first indications have already been observed at the LHC.

Effects of strong longitudinal colour electric fields (SCF), shadowing, and quenching on the open prompt charm mesons (D$^0$, D$^+$, D$^{*+}$, D${_s}{^+}$) production in central Pb + Pb collisions at $sqrt{s_{rm NN}}$ = 2.76 TeV are investigated within the framework of the {small HIJING/B=B v2.0} model. We compute the nuclear modification factor $R_{rm PbPb}^{rm D}$, and show that the above nuclear effects constitute important dynamical mechanisms in the description of experimental data. The strength of colour fields (as characterized by the string tension $kappa$), partonic energy loss and jet quenching process lead to a suppression factor consistent with recent published data. Predictions for future beauty mesons measurements have been included. Ratios of strange to non-strange prompt charm mesons in central Pb + Pb and minimum bias (MB) $ p + p$ collisions at 2.76 TeV are also discussed. Minimum bias $p + p$ collisions which constitute theoretical baseline in our calculations are studied at the centre of mass energies $sqrt{s}$ = 2.76 TeV and 7 TeV.
Using the Gribov-Glauber model for photon-nucleus scattering and a generalization of the vector meson dominance model for the hadronic structure of the photon, we make predictions for the cross section of incoherent $rho$ photoproduction in Pb-Pb ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) in the Large Hadron Collider kinematics. We find that the effect of the inelastic nuclear shadowing is significant and leads to an additional 25% suppression of the incoherent cross section. Comparing our predictions to those of the STARlight Monte Carlo framework, we observe very significant differences.
New physics at the TeV scale is highly anticipated at the LHC. New particles with color, if within the LHC energy reach, will be copiously produced. One such particle is a diquark, having the quantum numbers of two quarks, and can be a scalar or a vector. It will decay to two light quarks, or two top quarks, or a top and a light quark, (up or down type depending on the quantum number of the produced diquark). If singly produced, it can be looked for as a dijet resonance, or as giving extra contribution to the single top production or tt production. In this work, we consider a color sextet vector diquark having the quantum number of (ud) type, its resonance production, and the subsequent decay to tb, giving rise to excess contribution to the single top production. Even though the diquark mass is large, its strong resonance production dominate the weak production of tb for a wide range of the diquark mass. Also its subsequent decay to tb produce a very hard b-jet compared to the usual electroweak production. In addition, the missing energy in the final state event is much larger from the massive diquark decays. Thus, with suitable cuts, the final state with b, bar{b} and a charged lepton together with large missing energy stands out compared to the Standard Model background. We make a detailed study of both the signal and the background. We find that such a diquark is accessible at the 7 TeV LHC upto a mass of about 3.3 TeV with the luminosity 1 fb^{-1}, while the reach goes up to about 4.3 TeV with a luminosity of 10 fb^{-1}.
