In the present work one- and two-photon pair production in a subcritical magnetic field have been considered. Two-photon production has been studied in the resonant case, when the cross section considerably increases compared to the nonresonant case. While one-photon pair production is considered to be the main mechanism of plasma generation in a pulsar magnetosphere, we suggest the existence of another one, which is resonant two-photon production process.

We present numerical simulations of the electron-positron plasma creation process in a simple neutron star magnetosphere. We have developed a set of cascade `kernels, which represent the endpoint of the pair cascades resulting from monoenergetic photon seeds. We explore two popular models by convolving these kernels with the seed photon distributions produced by curvature radiation and by inverse Compton scattering. We find that the pair plasma in either case is well-described in its rest frame by a relativistic Maxwellian distribution with temperature near mc^2/k_B. We present cascade multiplicities and efficiencies for a range of seed particle energies and stellar magnetic fields. We find that the efficiencies and multiplicities of pair creation are often lower than has been assumed in previous work.
We reexamine the process $gammato e^++ e^-$ in a background magnetic field comparable to $B_cequiv m_e^2/e$. This process is known to be non-perturbative in the magnetic-field strength. However, it can be shown that the {it moments} of the above pair production width is proportional to the derivatives of photon polarization function at the zero energy, which is perturbative in $B$. Hence, the pair-production width can be easily obtained from the latter by the inverse Mellin transform. The implications of our approach are discussed.

We isolate the two-step mechanism involving a real intermediate photon from the one-step mechanism involving a virtual photon for the trident process in a constant crossed field. The two-step process is shown to agree with an integration over polarised sub-processes. At low to moderate quantum non-linearity parameter, the one-step process is found to be suppressed. When the parameter is large, the two decay channels are comparable if the field dimensions are not much greater than the formation length.
The process of neutrino production of electron positron pairs in a magnetic field of arbitrary strength, where electrons and positrons can be created in the states corresponding to excited Landau levels, is analysed. The mean value of the neutrino energy loss due to the process $ u to u e^- e^+$ is calculated. The result can be applied for calculating the efficiency of the electron-positron plasma production by neutrinos in the conditions of the Kerr black hole accretion disc considered by experts as the most possible source of a short cosmological gamma burst. The presented research can be also useful for further development of the calculation technic for an analysis of quantum processes in external active medium, and in part in the conditions of moderately strong magnetic field, when taking account of the ground Landau level appears to be insufficient.
In this article, we have explored the very important quantity of lepton pair production from a hot and dense QCD medium in presence of an arbitrary magnetic field for simultaneous nonzero values of both the parallel and perpendicular components of momentum. As opposed to the zero magnetic field case (the so-called Born rate) or the lowest Landau level approximated rate, where only the annihilation process contributes, here we observe contributions also arising out of the quark and antiquark decay processes. We found the encouraging result of considerable enhancement of lepton pair production in presence of a magnetic field. We further decompose the total rate into different physical processes and make interesting observations for both zero and nonzero baryon density.
