We draw a random subset of $k$ rows from a frame with $n$ rows (vectors) and $m$ columns (dimensions), where $k$ and $m$ are proportional to $n$. For a variety of important deterministic equiangular tight frames (ETFs) and tight non-ETF frames, we consider the distribution of singular values of the $k$-subset matrix. We observe that for large $n$ they can be precisely described by a known probability distribution -- Wachters MANOVA spectral distribution, a phenomenon that was previously known only for two types of random frames. In terms of convergence to this limit, the $k$-subset matrix from all these frames is shown to be empirically indistinguishable from the classical MANOVA (Jacobi) random matrix ensemble. Thus empirically the MANOVA ensemble offers a universal description of the spectra of randomly selected $k$-subframes, even those taken from deterministic frames. The same universality phenomena is shown to hold for notable random frames as well. This description enables exact calculations of properties of solutions for systems of linear equations based on a random choice of $k$ frame vectors out of $n$ possible vectors, and has a variety of implications for erasure coding, compressed sensing, and sparse recovery. When the aspect ratio $m/n$ is small, the MANOVA spectrum tends to the well known Marcenko-Pastur distribution of the singular values of a Gaussian matrix, in agreement with previous work on highly redundant frames. Our results are empirical, but they are exhaustive, precise and fully reproducible.

Denoising stationary process $(X_i)_{i in Z}$ corrupted by additive white Gaussian noise is a classic and fundamental problem in information theory and statistical signal processing. Despite considerable progress in designing efficient denoising algorithms, for general analog sources, theoretically-founded computationally-efficient methods are yet to be found. For instance in denoising $X^n$ corrupted by noise $Z^n$ as $Y^n=X^n+Z^n$, given the full distribution of $X^n$, a minimum mean square error (MMSE) denoiser needs to compute $E[X^n|Y^n]$. However, for general sources, computing $E[X^n|Y^n]$ is computationally very challenging, if not infeasible. In this paper, starting by a Bayesian setup, where the source distribution is fully known, a novel denoising method, namely, quantized maximum a posteriori (Q-MAP) denoiser, is proposed and its asymptotic performance in the high signal to noise ratio regime is analyzed. Both for memoryless sources, and for structured first-order Markov sources, it is shown that, asymptotically, as $sigma$ converges to zero, ${1over sigma^2}E[(X_i-hat{X}^{rm Q-MAP}_i)^2]$ achieved by Q-MAP denoiser converges to the information dimension of the source. For the studied memoryless sources, this limit is known to be optimal. A key advantage of the Q-MAP denoiser is that, unlike an MMSE denoiser, it highlights the key properties of the source distribution that are to be used in its denoising. This property dramatically reduces the computational complexity of approximating the solution of the Q-MAP denoiser. Additionally, it naturally leads to a learning-based denoiser. Using ImageNet database for training, initial simulation results exploring the performance of such a learning-based denoiser in image denoising are presented.

This note outlines the steps for proving that the moments of a randomly-selected subset of a general ETF (complex, with aspect ratio $0<gamma<1$) converge to the corresponding MANOVA moments. We bring here an extension for the proof of the Kesten-Mckay moments (real ETF, $gamma=1/2$) cite{magsino2020kesten}. In particular, we establish a recursive computation of the $r$th moment, for $r = 1,2,ldots$, and verify, using a symbolic program, that the recursion output coincides with the MANOVA moments.
In this paper we characterize and construct novel oversampled filter banks implementing fusion frames. A fusion frame is a sequence of orthogonal projection operators whose sum can be inverted in a numerically stable way. When properly designed, fusion frames can provide redundant encodings of signals which are optimally robust against certain types of noise and erasures. However, up to this point, few implementable constructions of such frames were known; we show how to construct them using oversampled filter banks. In this work, we first provide polyphase domain characterizations of filter bank fusion frames. We then use these characterizations to construct filter bank fusion fra
The parameters of a $q$-ary MDS Euclidean self-dual codes are completely determined by its length and the construction of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes with new length has been widely investigated in recent years. In this paper, we give a further study on the construction of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes via generalized Reed-Solomon (GRS) codes and their extended codes. The main idea of our construction is to choose suitable evaluation points such that the corresponding (extended) GRS codes are Euclidean self-dual. Firstly, we consider the evaluation set consists of two disjoint subsets, one of which is based on the trace function, the other one is a union of a subspace and its cosets. Then four new families of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes are constructed. Secondly, we give a simple but useful lemma to ensure that the symmetric difference of two intersecting subsets of finite fields can be taken as the desired evaluation set. Based on this lemma, we generalize our first construction and provide two new families of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes. Finally, by using two multiplicative subgroups and their cosets which have nonempty intersection, we present three generic constructions of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes with flexible parameters. Several new families of MDS Euclidean self-dual codes are explicitly constructed.
