The TOTEM experiment at the CERN LHC has measured elastic proton-proton scattering at the centre-of-mass energy $sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV and four-momentum transfers squared, |t|, from 6 x $10^{-4}$ GeV$^2$ to 0.2 GeV$^2$. Near the lower end of the |t|-interval the differential cross-section is sensitive to the interference between the hadronic and the electromagnetic scattering amplitudes. This article presents the elastic cross-section measurement and the constraints it imposes on the functional forms of the modulus and phase of the hadronic elastic amplitude. The data exclude the traditional Simplified West and Yennie interference formula that requires a constant phase and a purely exponential modulus of the hadronic amplitude. For parametrisations of the hadronic modulus with second- or third-order polynomials in the exponent, the data are compatible with hadronic phase functions giving either central or peripheral behaviour in the impact parameter picture of elastic scattering. In both cases, the $rho$-parameter is found to be 0.12 $pm$ 0.03. The results for the total hadronic cross-section are $sigma_{tot}$ = (102.9 $pm$ 2.3) mb and (103.0 $pm$ 2.3) mb for central and peripheral phase formulations, respectively. Both are consistent with previous TOTEM measurements.
A study is presented of central exclusive production of $Upsilon(nS)$ states, where the $Upsilon(nS)$ resonances decay to the $mu^+mu^-$ final state, using $pp$ collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment. The cross-section is measured in the rapidity range $2<y(Upsilon)<4.5$ where the muons are reconstructed in the pseudorapidity range $2<eta(mu^pm)<4.5$. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb$^{-1}$ and was collected at centre-of-mass energies of $7$ TeV and $8$ TeV. The measured $Upsilon(1S)$ and $Upsilon(2S)$ production cross-sections are begin{eqnarray} sigma(pp to pUpsilon(1S)p) &=& 9.0 pm 2.1 pm 1.7textrm{ pb and} onumber sigma(pp to pUpsilon(2S)p) &=& 1.3 pm 0.8 pm 0.3textrm{ pb}, onumber end{eqnarray} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The $Upsilon(1S)$ cross-section is also measured as a function of rapidity and is found to be in good agreement with Standard Model predictions. An upper limit is set at 3.4 pb at the 95% confidence level for the exclusive $Upsilon(3S)$ production cross-section, including possible contamination from $chi_b(3P)toUpsilon(3S)gamma$ decays.
The TOTEM collaboration has measured the elastic proton-proton differential cross section ${rm d}sigma/{rm d}t$ at $sqrt{s}=13$ TeV LHC energy using dedicated $beta^{*}=90$ m beam optics. The Roman Pot detectors were inserted to 10$sigma$ distance from the LHC beam, which allowed the measurement of the range $[0.04$ GeV$^{2}$$; 4 $GeV$^{2}$$]$ in four-momentum transfer squared $|t|$. The efficient data acquisition allowed to collect about 10$^{9}$ elastic events to precisely measure the differential cross-section including the diffractive minimum (dip), the subsequent maximum (bump) and the large-$|t|$ tail. The average nuclear slope has been found to be $B=(20.40 pm 0.002^{rm stat} pm 0.01^{rm syst})~$GeV$^{-2}$ in the $|t|$-range $0.04~$GeV$^{2}$ to $0.2~$GeV$^{2}$. The dip position is $|t_{rm dip}|=(0.47 pm 0.004^{rm stat} pm 0.01^{rm syst})~$GeV$^{2}$. The differential cross section ratio at the bump vs. at the dip $R=1.77pm0.01^{rm stat}$ has been measured with high precision. The series of TOTEM elastic pp measurements show that the dip is a permanent feature of the pp differential cross-section at the TeV scale.
The cross-section for inclusive phi meson production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 7 TeV has been measured with the LHCb detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The differential cross-section is measured as a function of the phi transverse momentum p_T and rapidity y in the region 0.6 < p_T < 5.0 GeV/c and 2.44 < y < 4.06. The cross-section for inclusive phi production in this kinematic range is sigma(pp -> phi X) = 1758 pm 19(stat) ^{+43}_{-14}(syst) pm 182(scale) microbarn, where the first systematic uncertainty depends on the p_T and y region and the second is related to the overall scale. Predictions based on the Pythia 6.4 generator underestimate the cross-section.
The production of B+- mesons in proton-proton collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV is studied using 35 pb-1 of data collected by the LHCb detector. The B+- mesons are reconstructed exclusively in the B+- -> J/psi K+- mode, with J/psi -> mu+ mu-. The differential production cross-section is measured as a function of the B+- transverse momentum in the fiducial region 0 < pT < 40 GeV/c and with rapidity 2.0 < y < 4.5. The total cross-section, summing up B+ and B-, is measured to be sigma(pp -> B+- X, 0 < pT < 40 GeV/c, 2.0 < y < 4.5) = 41.4 +- 1.5 (stat.) +- 3.1 (syst.) mub.
We present a measurement of the elastic differential cross section $dsigma(pbar{p}rightarrow pbar{p})/dt$ as a function of the four-momentum-transfer squared t. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $approx 31 nb^{-1}$ collected with the D0 detector using dedicated Tevatron $pbar{p} $ Collider operating conditions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV and covers the range $0.26 <|t|< 1.2 GeV^2$. For $|t|<0.6 GeV^2$, dsigma/dt is described by an exponential function of the form $Ae^{-b|t|}$ with a slope parameter $ b = 16.86 pm 0.10(stat) pm 0.20(syst) GeV^{-2}$. A change in slope is observed at $|t| approx 0.6 GeV^2$, followed by a more gradual |t| dependence with increasing values of |t|.
