We prove a non-existence theorem for smooth AdS5 solutions with connected, compact without boundary internal space that preserve strictly 24 supersymmetries. In particular, we show that D=11 supergravity does not admit such solutions, and that all such solutions of IIB supergravity are locally isometric to the AdS_5 * S^5 maximally supersymmetric background. Furthermore, we prove that (massive) IIA supergravity also does not admit such solutions, provided that the homogeneity conjecture for massive IIA supergravity is valid. In the context of AdS/CFT these results imply that if strictly N=3 superconformal theories in 4-dimensions exist, their gravitational dual backgrounds are either singular or their internal spaces are not compact.

We recently conjectured a set of dualities relating two-dimensional orthogonal gauge theories with $mathcal{N}=(4,4)$ supersymmetry, analogous to Horis dualities with $mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetry. Here we provide a quantitative test of this conjecture by computing the elliptic genera of the dual pairs and showing that they agree. The elliptic genus of orthogonal gauge theories has multiple topological sectors that depend on the global structure of the group and on the value of a discrete $theta$ parameter. We derive the dependence on the $theta$ parameter by determining whether a given sector has $(S)Pin$ structure or not.
Motivated by the gauge/gravity duality, we introduce a numerical scheme based on generalized harmonic evolution to solve the Einstein field equations on asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetimes. We work in global AdS5, which can be described by the (t,r,chi, theta, phi) spherical coordinates adapted to the R{times}S3 boundary. We focus on solutions that preserve an SO(3) symmetry that acts to rotate the 2-spheres parametrized by theta, phi. In the boundary conformal field theory (CFT), the way in which this symmetry manifests itself hinges on the way we choose to embed Minkowski space in R{times}S3. We present results from an ongoing study of prompt black hole formation via scalar field collapse, and explore the subsequent quasi-normal ringdown. Beginning with initial data characterized by highly distorted apparent horizon geometries, the metrics quickly evolve, via quasi-normal ringdown, to equilibrium static black hole solutions at late times. The lowest angular number quasi-normal modes are consistent with the linear modes previously found in perturbative studies, whereas the higher angular modes are a combination of linear modes and of harmonics arising from non-linear mode-coupling. We extract the stress energy tensor of the dual CFT on the boundary, and find that despite being highly inhomogeneous initially, it nevertheless evolves from the outset in a manner that is consistent with a thermalized N=4 SYM fluid. As a first step towards closer contact with relativistic heavy ion collision physics, we map this solution to a Minkowski piece of the R{times}S3 boundary, and obtain a corresponding fluid flow in Minkowski space.
We study the homology and cohomology groups of super Lie algebra of supersymmetries and of super Poincare algebra. We discuss in detail the calculation in dimensions D=10 and D=6. Our methods can be applied to extended supersymmetry algebra and to other dimensions.
We study some special features of $F_{24}$, the holomorphic $c=12$ superconformal field theory (SCFT) given by 24 chiral free fermions. We construct eight different Lie superalgebras of physical states of a chiral superstring compactified on $F_{24}$, and we prove that they all have the structure of Borcherds-Kac-Moody superalgebras. This produces a family of new examples of such superalgebras. The models depend on the choice of an $mathcal{N}=1$ supercurrent on $F_{24}$, with the admissible choices labeled by the semisimple Lie algebras of dimension 24. We also discuss how $F_{24}$, with any such choice of supercurrent, can be obtained via orbifolding from another distinguished $c=12$ holomorphic SCFT, the $mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetric version of the chiral CFT based on the $E_8$ lattice.
We classify the simply-connected supersymmetric parallelisable backgrounds of heterotic supergravity. They are all given by parallelised Lie groups admitting a bi-invariant lorentzian metric. We find examples preserving 4, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 of the 16 supersymmetries.
