It is shown that positivity in $(0,1)times (0,1)$ of Green function of positively defined fourth-order ordinary differential operator (with separated boundary conditions) is a criterium of sign-regularity of this operator.
Picone-type identities are established for half-linear ODEs of fourth order (one-dimensional p-biLaplacian). It is shown that in the linear case they reduce to the known identities for fourth order linear ODEs. Picone-type identity known for two half-linear second-order equations is also generalised to set of equations greater than two.
This note reports on the recent advancements in the search for explicit representation, in classical special functions, of the solutions of the fourth-order ordinary differential equations named Bessel-type, Jacobi-type, Laguerre-type, Legendre-type.
In this paper we characterize global regularity in the sense of Shubin of twisted partial differential operators of second order in dimension $2$. These operators form a class containing the twisted Laplacian, and in bi-unique correspondence with second order ordinary differential operators with polynomial coefficients and symbol of degree $2$. This correspondence is established by a transformation of Wigner type. In this way the global regularity of twisted partial differential operators turns out to be equivalent to global regularity and injectivity of the corresponding ordinary differential operators, which can be completely characterized in terms of the asymptotic behavior of the Weyl symbol. In conclusion we observe that we have obtained a new class of globally regular partial differential operators which is disjoint from the class of hypo-elliptic operators in the sense of Shubin.
When studying boundary value problems for some partial differential equations arising in applied mathematics, we often have to study the solution of a system of partial differential equations satisfied by hypergeometric functions and find explicit linearly independent solutions for the system. In this study, we construct self-similar solutions of some model degenerate partial differential equations of the second, third, and fourth order. These self-similar solutions are expressed in terms of hypergeometric functions.
The present paper deals with the spectral and the oscillation properties of a linear pencil $A-lambda B$. Here $A$ and $B$ are linear operators generated by the differential expressions $(py)$ and $-y+ cry$, respectively. In particular, it is shown that the negative eigenvalues of this problem are simple and the corresponding eigenfunctions $y_{-n}$ have $n-1$ zeros in $(0,1)$.
