We introduce a solid material that is itself invisible, possessing identical electromagnetic properties as air (i.e. not a cloak) at a desired frequency. Such a material could provide improved mechanical stability, electrical conduction and heat dissipation to a system, without disturbing incident electromagnetic radiation. One immediate application would be towards perfect antenna radomes. Unlike cloaks, such a transparent and self-invisible material has yet to be demonstrated. Previous research has shown that a single sphere or cylinder coated with plasmonic or dielectric layers can have a dark-state with considerably suppressed scattering cross-section, due to the destructive interference between two resonances in one of its scattering channels. Nevertheless, a massive collection of these objects will have an accumulated and detectable disturbance to the original field distribution. Here we overcome this bottleneck by lining up the dark-state frequencies in different channels. Specifically, we derive analytically, verify numerically and demonstrate experimentally that deliberately designed corrugated metallic wires can have record-low scattering amplitudes, achieved by aligning the nodal frequencies of the first two scattering channels. This enables an arbitrary assembly of these wires to be omnidirectionally invisible and the effective constitutive parameters nearly identical to air. Measured transmission spectra at microwave frequencies reveal indistinguishable results for all the arrangements of the 3D-printed samples studied.

We study the no reflection condition for a planar boundary between vacuum and an isotropic chiral medium. In general chiral media, elliptically polarized waves incident at a particular angle satisfy the no reflection condition. When the wave impedance and wavenumber of the chiral medium are equal to the corresponding parameters of vacuum, one of the circularly polarized waves is transmitted to the medium without reflection or refraction for all angles of incidence. We propose a circular polarizing beam splitter as a simple application of the no reflection effect.

We showed how a structural modification of graphene, which gives a carbon allotrope graphyne, can induce an energy gap at the K point of the Brillouin zone. Upon adsorption on metallic surfaces, the same mechanism is responsible for the further modification of the energy gap which occurs via the charge transfer mechanism. We performed the calculation based on the density functional theory with the novel non-local vdW-DF correlation of the adsorption of graphyne on Cu(111), Ni(111) and Co(0001) surfaces and showed the dependence of the gap change on the charge transfer in the system. The binding of graphyne appears to be stronger than of graphene on the same surfaces.
We demonstrate a new design principle for unidirectionally invisible non-Hermitian structures that are not only invisible for one specific wavelength but rather for a broad frequency range. Our idea is based on the concept of constant-intensity waves, which can propagate even through highly disordered media without back-scattering or intensity variations. Contrary to already existing invisibility studies, our new design principle requires neither a specific symmetry (like $mathcal{PT}$-symmetry) nor periodicity, and can thus be applied in a much wider context. This generality combined with broadband frequency stability allows a pulse to propagate through a disordered medium as if the medium was entirely uniform.
We report on a first principles study of anti-ferromagnetic resonance (AFMR) phenomena in metallic systems [MnX (X=Ir,Pt,Pd,Rh) and FeRh] under an external electric field. We demonstrate that the AFMR linewidth can be separated into a relativistic component originating from the angular momentum transfer between the collinear AFM subsystem and the crystal through the spin orbit coupling (SOC), and an exchange component that originates from the spin exchange between the two sublattices. The calculations reveal that the latter component becomes significant in the low temperature regime. Furthermore, we present results for the current-induced intersublattice torque which can be separated into the Field-Like (FL) and Damping-Like (DL) components, affecting the intersublattice exchange coupling and AFMR linewidth, respectively.

By using the novel property of the rectangular superscatterer, we propose a design which can conceal an entrance from electromagnetic wave detection. Such a superscatterer is realized by coating a negative index material shell on a perfect electrical conductor rectangle cylinder. The results are numerically confirmed by full-wave simulations both in the far-field and near-field.
