We have systematically grown large single crystals of layered compound beta-PdBi2, both the hole-doped PdBi2-xPbx and the electron-doped NaxPdBi2, and studied their magnetic and transport properties. Hall-effect measurement on PdBi2, PdBi1.8Pb0.2, and Na0.057PdBi2 shows that the charge transport is dominated by electrons in all of the samples. The electron concentration is substantially reduced upon Pb-doping in PdBi2-xPbx and increased upon Na-intercalation in NaxPdBi2, indicating the effective hole-doping by Pb and electron-doping by Na. We observed a monotonic decrease of superconducting transition temperature (Tc) from 5.4K in undoped PdBi2 to less than 2K for x > 0.35 in hole-doped PdBi2-xPbx. Meanwhile, a rapid decrease of Tc with the Na intercalation is also observed in the electron-doped NaxPdBi2, which is in disagreement with the theoretical expectation. In addition, both the magnetoresistance and Hall resistance further reveal evidence for a possible spin density wave (SDW)-like transition below 50K in the Na-intercalated PdBi2 sample. The complete phase diagram is thus established from hole-doping to electron-doping. Meanwhile, high pressure study of the undoped PdBi2 shows that the Tc is linearly suppressed under pressure with a dTc/dP coefficient of -0.28K/GPa.

We carried out a combined P-substitution and hydrostatic pressure study on CeFeAs_1-xP_xO single crystals in order to investigate the peculiar relationship of the local moment magnetism of Ce, the ordering of itinerant Fe moments, and their connection with the occurrence of superconductivity. Our results evidence a close relationship between the weakening of Fe magnetism and the change from antiferromagnetic to ferromagnetic ordering of Ce moments at p*=1.95 GPa in CeFeAs_0.78P_0.22O. The absence of superconductivity in CeFeAs_0.78P_0.22O and the presence of a narrow and strongly pressure sensitive superconducting phase in CeFeAs_0.70P_0.30O and CeFeAs_0.65P_0.35O indicate the detrimental effect of the Ce magnetism on superconductivity in P-substituted CeFeAsO.
We report the results of our investigation of SrPt3P, a recently discovered strong-coupling superconductor with Tc = 8.4 K, by application of high physical pressure and by chemical doping. We study hole-doped SrPt3P, which was theoretically predicted to have a higher Tc, resistively, magnetically, and calorimetrically. Here we present the results of these studies and discuss their implications.

High-pressure electrical resistivity measurements up to 3.0GPa have been performed on EuFe2As2 single crystals with residual resistivity ratios RRR=7 and 15. At ambient pressure, a magnetic / structural transition related to FeAs-layers is observed at T0 =190K and 194K for samples with RRR=7 and 15, respectively. Application of hydrostatic pressure suppresses T0, and then induces similar superconducting behavior in the samples with different RRR values. However, the critical pressure 2.7GPa, where T0=0, for the samples with RRR=15 is slightly but distinctly larger than 2.5GPa for the samples with RRR=7.
We report on the synthesis of superconducting single crystals of FeSe, and their characterization by X-ray diffraction, magnetization and resistivity. We have performed ac susceptibility measurements under high pressure in a hydrostatic liquid argon medium up to 14 GPa and we find that TC increases up to 33-36 K in all samples, but with slightly different pressure dependences on different samples. Above 12 GPa no traces of superconductivity are found in any sample. We have also performed a room temperature high pressure X-ray diffraction study up to 12 GPa on a powder sample, and we find that between 8.5 GPa and 12 GPa, the tetragonal PbO structure undergoes a structural transition to a hexagonal structure. This transition results in a volume decrease of about 16%, and is accompanied by the appearance of an intermediate, probably orthorhombic phase.

Layered transition-metal dichalcogenides 1T-TaS2-xSex (0<=x<=2) single crystals have been successfully fabricated by using a chemical vapor transport technique in which Ta locates in octahedral coordination with S and Se atoms. This is the first superconducting example by the substitution of S site, which violates an initial rule based on the fact that superconductivity merely emerges in 1T-TaS2 by applying the high pressure or substitution of Ta site. We demonstrate the appearance of a series of electronic states in 1T-TaS2-xSex with Se content. Namely, the Mott phase melts into a nearly commensurate charge-density-wave (NCCDW) phase, superconductivity in a wide x range develops within the NCCDW state, and finally commensurate charge-density-wave (CCDW) phase reproduces for heavy Se content. The present results reveal that superconductivity is only characterized by robust Ta 5d band, demonstrating the universal nature in 1T-TaS2 systems that superconductivity and NCCDW phase coexist in the real space.
