A class of multidimensional integrable hierarchies connected with commutation of general (unreduced) (N+1)-dimensional vector fields containing derivative over spectral variable is considered. They are represented in the form of generating equation, as well as in the Lax-Sato form. A dressing scheme based on nonlinear vector Riemann problem is presented for this class. The hierarchies connected with Manakov-Santini equation and Dunajski system are considered as illustrative examples.
It was observed by Tod and later by Dunajski and Tod that the Boyer-Finley (BF) and the dispersionless Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (dKP) equations possess solutions whose level surfaces are central quadrics in the space of independent variables (the so-called central quadric ansatz). It was demonstrated that generic solutions of this type are described by Painleve equations PIII and PII, respectively. The aim of our paper is threefold: -- Based on the method of hydrodynamic reductions, we classify integrable models possessing the central quadric ansatz. This leads to the five canonical forms (including BF and dKP). -- Applying the central quadric ansatz to each of the five canonical forms, we obtain all Painleve equations PI - PVI, with PVI corresponding to the generic case of our classification. -- We argue that solutions coming from the central quadric ansatz constitute a subclass of two-phase solutions provided by the method of hydrodynamic reductions.
We develop a new approach to the classification of integrable equations of the form $$ u_{xy}=f(u, u_x, u_y, triangle_z u triangle_{bar z}u, triangle_{zbar z}u), $$ where $triangle_{ z}$ and $triangle_{bar z}$ are the forward/backward discrete derivatives. The following 2-step classification procedure is proposed: (1) First we require that the dispersionless limit of the equation is integrable, that is, its characteristic variety defines a conformal structure which is Einstein-Weyl on every solution. (2) Secondly, to the candidate equations selected at the previous step we apply the test of Darboux integrability of reductions obtained by imposing suitable cut-off conditions.
In this paper we study the equation $$ w^{(4)} = 5 w (w^2 - w) + 5 w (w)^2 - w^5 + (lambda z + alpha)w + gamma, $$ which is one of the higher-order Painleve equations (i.e., equations in the polynomial class having the Painleve property). Like the classical Painleve equations, this equation admits a Hamiltonian formulation, Backlund transformations and families of rational and special functions. We prove that this equation considered as a Hamiltonian system with parameters $gamma/lambda = 3 k$, $gamma/lambda = 3 k - 1$, $k in mathbb{Z}$, is not integrable in Liouville sense by means of rational first integrals. To do that we use the Ziglin-Morales-Ruiz-Ramis approach. Then we study the integrability of the second and third members of the $mathrm{P}_{mathrm{II}}$-hierarchy. Again as in the previous case it turns out that the normal variational equations are particular cases of the generalized confluent hypergeometric equations whose differential Galois groups are non-commutative and hence, they are obstructions to integrability.
