We discuss, in an investigation based on Vlasov equation, the properties of the isovector modes in nuclear matter and atomic nuclei in relation with the symmetry energy. We obtain numerically the dipole response and determine the strength function for various systems, including a chain of Sn isotopes. We consider for the symmetry energy three parametrizations with density providing similar values at saturation but which manifest very different slopes around this point. In this way we can explore how the slope affects the collective response of finite nuclear systems. We focus first on the dipole polarizability and show that while the model is able to describe the expected mass dependence, A^{5/3}, it also demonstrates that this quantity is sensitive to the slope parameter of the symmetry energy. Then, by considering the Sn isotopic chain, we investigate the emergence of a collective mode, the Pygmy Dipole Resonance (PDR), when the number of neutrons in excess increases. We show that the total energy-weighted sum rule exhausted by this mode has a linear dependence with the square of isospin I=(N-Z)/A, again sensitive to the slope of the symmetry energy with density. Therefore the polarization effects in the isovector density have to play an important role in the dynamics of PDR. These results provide additional hints in the investigations aiming to extract the properties of symmetry energy below saturation.

We study the nuclear iso-scalar giant quadruple resonance~(ISGQR) based on the Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck~(BUU) transport equation. The mean-field part of the BUU equation is described by the Skyrme nucleon-nucleon effective interaction, and its collision term, which embodies the two-particle-two-hole ($2$p-$2$h) correlation, is implemented through the stochastic approach. We find that the width of ISGQR for heavy nuclei is exhausted dominated by collisional damping, which is incorporated into the BUU equation through its collision term, and it can be well reproduced through employing a proper in-medium nucleon-nucleon cross section. Based on further Vlasov and BUU calculations with a number of representative Skyrme interactions, the iso-scalar nucleon effective mass at saturation density is extracted respectively as $m^{*}_{s,0}/m$ $=$ $0.83pm0.04$ and $m^{*}_{s,0}/m$ $=$ $0.82pm0.03$ from the measured excitation energy $E_x$ of the ISGQR of $isotope[208]{Pb}$. The small discrepancy between the two constraints indicates the negligible role of $2$p-$2$h correlation in constraining $m_{s,0}^*$ with the ISGQR excitation energy.
Novel transverse-momentum technique is used to analyse charged-particle exclusive data for collective motion in the Ar+KCl reaction at 1.8 GeV/nucl. Previous analysis of this reaction, employing the standard sphericity tensor, revealed no significant effect. In the present analysis, collective effects are observed, and they are substantially stronger than in the Cugnon cascade model, but weaker than in the hydrodynamical model.
Using transport theory to model central Au + Au collisions in the energy region of 20 - 110 MeV/u, at impact parameters b <= 5 fm, we predict a measurable impact of spinoidal instability as the collective expansion sets in with energy. Two transport models are employed, the pBUU model, solving a Boltzmann-Uehling-Uhlenbeck equation, and the Brownian Motion (BM) model, solving a set of Langevin equations to describe the motion of individual nucleons in a noisy nuclear medium. We find without ambiguity, for the first time, that a combination of delayed equilibration, onset of collective expansion and the spinodal instability produces a pair of transient ring structures, made of the projectile and target remnants, with spectator nucleons predicted to end in the entities reminiscent of stones in jewelry, on the rings. The ring structures, calculated in the configuration space and mapped onto the velocity space, could be detected in experimental collective flow data.
For nuclear level densities, a modification of an enhanced generalized superfluid model with different collective state enhancement factors is studied. An effect of collective states on forming the temperature is taken into account. The ready-to-use tables for the asymptotic value of $a$-parameter of level density as well as for addition shift to excitation energy are prepared using the chi-square fit of the theoretical values of neutron resonance spacing and cumulative number of low-energy levels to experimental values. The systematics of these parameters as a function of mass number and neutron excess are obtained. The collective state effect on gamma-ray spectra and excitation functions of neutron-induced nuclear reactions is investigated by the use of EMPIRE 3.1 code with modified enhanced generalized superfluid model for nuclear level density.
We present a nucleus-dependent valence-space approach for calculating ground and excited states of nuclei, which generalizes the shell-model in-medium similarity renormalization group to an ensemble reference with fractionally filled orbitals. Because the ensemble is used only as a reference, and not to represent physical states, no symmetry restoration is required. This allows us to capture 3N forces among valence nucleons with a valence-space Hamiltonian specifically targeted to each nucleus of interest. Predicted ground-state energies from carbon through nickel agree with results of other large-space ab initio methods, generally to the 1% level. In addition, we show that this new approach is required in order to obtain convergence for nuclei in the upper $p$ and $sd$ shells. Finally, we address the $1^+$/$3^+$ ground-state inversion problem in $^{22}text{Na}$ and $^{46}text{V}$. This approach extends the reach of ab initio nuclear structure calculations to essentially all light- and medium-mass nuclei.
