This note contains a representation formula for positive solutions of linear degenerate second-order equations of the form $$ partial_t u (x,t) = sum_{j=1}^m X_j^2 u(x,t) + X_0 u(x,t) qquad (x,t) in mathbb{R}^N times, ]- infty ,T[,$$ proved by a functional analytic approach based on Choquet theory. As a consequence, we obtain Liouville-type theorems and uniqueness results for the positive Cauchy problem.
We prove a necessary and sufficient condition for the Liouville and strong Liouville properties of the infinitesimal generator of a Levy process and subordinate Levy processes. Combining our criterion with the necessary and sufficient condition obtained by Alibaud et al., we obtain a characterization of (orthogonal subgroup of) the set of zeros of the characteristic exponent of the Levy process.
We prove weighted $L^p$-Liouville theorems for a class of second order hypoelliptic partial differential operators $mathcal{L}$ on Lie groups $mathbb{G}$ whose underlying manifold is $n$-dimensional space. We show that a natural weight is the right-invariant measure $check{H}$ of $mathbb{G}$. We also prove Liouville-type theorems for $C^2$ subsolutions in $L^p(mathbb{G},check{H})$. We provide examples of operators to which our results apply, jointly with an application to the uniqueness for the Cauchy problem for the evolution operator $mathcal{L}-partial_t$.
Adapting the method of Andrews-Clutterbuck we prove an eigenvalue gap theorem for a class of non symmetric second order linear elliptic operators on a convex domain in euclidean space. The class of operators includes the Bakry-Emery laplacian with potential and any operator with second order term the laplacian whose first order terms have coefficients with compact support in the open domain. The eigenvalue gap is bounded below by the gap of an associated Sturm-Liouville problem on a closed interval.
This article considers the eigenvalue problem for the Sturm-Liouville problem including $p$-Laplacian begin{align*} begin{cases} left(vert uvert^{p-2}uright)+left(lambda+r(x)right)vert uvert ^{p-2}u=0,,, xin (0,pi_{p}), u(0)=u(pi_{p})=0, end{cases} end{align*} where $1<p<infty$, $pi_{p}$ is the generalized $pi$ given by $pi_{p}=2pi/left(psin(pi/p)right)$, $rin C[0,pi_{p}]$ and $lambda<p-1$. Sharp Lyapunov-type inequalities, which are necessary conditions for the existence of nontrivial solutions of the above problem are presented. Results are obtained through the analysis of variational problem related to a sharp Sobolev embedding and generalized trigonometric and hyperbolic functions.
We study harmonic functions for general Dirichlet forms. First we review consequences of Fukushimas ergodic theorem for the harmonic functions in the domain of the $ L^{p} $ generator. Secondly we prove analogues of Yaus and Karps Liouville theorems for weakly harmonic functions. Both say that weakly harmonic functions which satisfy certain $ L^{p} $ growth criteria must be constant. As consequence we give an integral criterion for recurrence.
