We show that the usual linear analysis of QGP Weibel instabilities based on the Maxwell-Boltzmann equation may be reproduced in a purely hydrodynamic model. The latter is derived by the Entropy Production Variational Method from a transport equation including collisions, and can describe highly nonequilibrium flow. We find that, as expected, collisions slow down the growth of Weibel instabilities. Finally, we discuss the strong momentum anisotropy limit.

We investigate theoretically the collective dynamics of a suspension of low Reynolds number swimmers that are confined to two dimensions by a thin fluid film. Our model swimmer is characterized by internal degrees of freedom which locally exert active stresses (force dipoles or quadrupoles) on the fluid. We find that hydrodynamic interactions mediated by the film can give rise to spontaneous continuous symmetry breaking (swarming), to states with either polar or nematic homogeneous order. For dipolar swimmers, the stroke averaged dynamics are enough to determine the leading contributions to the collective behaviour. In contrast, for quadrupolar swimmers, our analysis shows that detailed features of the internal dynamics play an important role in determining the bulk behaviour. In the broken symmetry phases, we investigate fluctuations of hydrodynamic variables of the system and find that these destabilize order. Interestingly, this instability is not generic and depends on length-scale.

We compute the homogeneous limit of non-hydrodynamic quasinormal modes (QNMs) of a phenomenologically realistic Einstein-Maxwell-Dilaton (EMD) holographic model for the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) that is able to: i) {it quantitatively} describe state-of-the-art lattice results for the QCD equation of state and higher order baryon susceptibilities with $2+1$ flavors and physical quark masses up to highest values of the baryon chemical potential currently reached in lattice simulations; ii) describe the nearly perfect fluidity of the strongly coupled QGP produced in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions; iii) give a very good description of the bulk viscosity extracted via some recent Bayesian analyzes of hydrodynamical descriptions of heavy ion experimental data. This EMD model has been recently used to predict the location of the QCD critical point in the QCD phase diagram, which was found to be within the reach of upcoming low energy heavy ion collisions. The lowest quasinormal modes of the $SO(3)$ rotationally invariant quintuplet, triplet, and singlet channels evaluated in the present work provide upper bounds for characteristic equilibration times describing how fast the dense medium returns to thermal equilibrium after being subjected to small disturbances. We find that the equilibration times in the different channels come closer to each other at high temperatures, although being well separated at the critical point. Moreover, in most cases, these equilibration times decrease with increasing baryon chemical potential while keeping temperature fixed.
The photon emission by an ultrarelativistic charged particle in extremely strong magnetic field is analyzed, with vacuum polarization and photon recoil taken into account. The vacuum polarization is treated phenomenologically via refractive index. The photon emission occurs in the synergic (cooperative) synchrotron-Cherenkov process [J. Schwinger, W. Tsai and T. Erber, Annals of Physics, 96 303 (1976)] which is similar to the synchrotron emission rather than to the Cherenkov one. For electrons, the effect of the vacuum polarization on the emission spectrum is not evident even beyond the probable onset of non-perturbative quantum electrodynamics (QED). However, the effect of the vacuum polarization on the emission spectrum can be observable for muons already at $gamma B / B_S approx 30$, with $gamma$ the muon Lorentz factor, $B$ the magnetic field strength and $B_S$ the critical QED field. Nevertheless, vacuum polarization leads to only 10% enhancement of the maximum of the radiation spectrum.

In this paper we show how to recast the results of the semiclassical method of Baier, Katkov & Strakhovenko for pair production, including the possibility of specifying all the spin states and photon polarization, in a form that is suitable for numerical implementation. In this case, a new type of integral appears in addition to the ones required for the radiation emission process. We compare the resulting formulas with those obtained for a short pulse plane wave external field by using the Volkov state. We investigate the applicability of the local constant field approximation for the proposed upcoming experiments at FACET II at SLAC and LUXE at DESY. Finally, we provide results on the dependence of the pair production rate on the relative polarization between a linearly polarized laser pulse and a linearly polarized incoming high energy photon. We observe that even in the somewhat intermediate intensity regime of these experiments, there is roughly a factor of $2$ difference between the pair production rates corresponding to the two relative photon polarizations, which is of interest in light of the vacuum birefringence of QED.

We discuss a non-perturbative $T$-matrix approach to investigate the microscopic structure of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). Utilizing an effective Hamiltonian which includes both light- and heavy-parton degrees of freedoms. The basic two-body interaction includes color-Coulomb and confining contributions in all available color channels, and is constrained by lattice-QCD data for the heavy-quark free energy. The in-medium $T$-matrices and parton spectral functions are computed selfconsistently with full account of off-shell properties encoded in large scattering widths. We apply the $T$-matrices to calculate the equation of state (EoS) for the QGP, including a ladder resummation of the Luttinger-Ward functional using a matrix-log technique to account for the dynamical formation of bound states. It turns out that the latter become the dominant degrees of freedom in the EoS at low QGP temperatures indicating a transition from parton to hadron degrees of freedom. The calculated spectral properties of one- and two-body states confirm this picture, where large parton scattering rates dissolve the parton quasiparticle structures while broad resonances start to form as the pseudocritical temperature is approached from above. Further calculations of transport coefficients reveal a small viscosity and heavy-quark diffusion coefficient.
