In this paper we show how to recast the results of the semiclassical method of Baier, Katkov & Strakhovenko for pair production, including the possibility of specifying all the spin states and photon polarization, in a form that is suitable for numerical implementation. In this case, a new type of integral appears in addition to the ones required for the radiation emission process. We compare the resulting formulas with those obtained for a short pulse plane wave external field by using the Volkov state. We investigate the applicability of the local constant field approximation for the proposed upcoming experiments at FACET II at SLAC and LUXE at DESY. Finally, we provide results on the dependence of the pair production rate on the relative polarization between a linearly polarized laser pulse and a linearly polarized incoming high energy photon. We observe that even in the somewhat intermediate intensity regime of these experiments, there is roughly a factor of $2$ difference between the pair production rates corresponding to the two relative photon polarizations, which is of interest in light of the vacuum birefringence of QED.

The $B_c$ meson pair, including pairs of both pseudoscalar states and vector states, productions in high energy photon-photon interaction are investigated at the next-to-leading order (NLO) accuracy in the nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD) factorization formalism. The corresponding cross sections at the future $e^+e^-$ colliders with $sqrt{s}=250$ GeV and $500$ GeV are evaluated. Numerical result indicates that the inclusion of the NLO corrections shall greatly suppress the scale dependence and enhance the prediction reliability. In addition to the phenomenological meaning, the NLO QCD calculation of this process subjects to certain technical issues, which are elucidated in details and might be applicable to other relevant investigations.
We calculate the next-to-leading order (NLO) quantum chromodynamics (QCD) correction to the exclusive process $gamma+gammato J/psi+J/psi$ in the framework of non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism. The cross sections at the SuperKEKB electron-positron collider, as well as at the future colliders, like the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC) and the International Linear Collider (ILC), are evaluated. Numerical result indicates that the process will be hopefully to be seen by the Belle II detector within the next decade.

In this talk, I review the effective theory approach to unstable particle production and present results of a calculation of the process e- e+ ->mu- nubar_mu u dbar X near the W-pair production threshold up to next-to-leading order in GammaW/MW ~ alpha ~ v^2. The remaining theoretical uncertainty and the impact on the measurement of the W mass is discussed.
Birefringent materials or nanostructures that introduce phase differences between two linear polarizations underpin the operation of wave plates for polarization control of light. Here we develop metasurfaces realizing a distinct class of complex-birefringent wave plates, which combine polarization transformation with a judiciously tailored polarization-dependent phase retardance and amplitude filtering via diffraction. We prove that the presence of loss enables the mapping from any chosen generally non-orthogonal pair of polarizations to any other pair at the output. We establish an optimal theoretical design-framework based on pairwise nanoresonator structures and experimentally demonstrate unique properties of metasurfaces in the amplification of small polarization differences and polarization coupling with unconventional phase control. Furthermore, we reveal that these metasurfaces can perform arbitrary transformations of biphoton polarization-encoded quantum states, including the modification of the degree of entanglement. Thereby, such flat devices can facilitate novel types of multi-functional polarization optics for classical and quantum applications.
Deep understanding of photon polarization impact on pair production is essential for the efficient creation of laser driven polarized positron beams, and demands a complete description of polarization effects in strong-field QED processes. We investigate, employing fully polarization resolved Monte Carlo simulations, the correlated photon and electron (positron) polarization effects in multiphoton Breit-Wheeler pair production process during the interaction of an ultrarelativistic electron beam with a counterpropagating elliptically polarized laser pulse. We showed that the polarization of e^-e^+ pairs is degraded by 35%, when the polarization of the intermediate photon is resolved, accompanied with an approximately 13% decrease of the pair yield. Moreover, the polarization direction of energetic positrons in small angle region is reversed, which originates from the pair production of hard photons with polarization parallel with electric field.
