In this note we generalize the methods of [1][2][3] to 5-dimensional Riemannian manifolds M. We study the relations between the geometry of M and the number of solutions to a generalized Killing spinor equation obtained from a 5-dimensional supergravity. The existence of 1 pair of solutions is related to almost contact metric structures. We also discuss special cases related to $M = S1 times M4$, which leads to M being foliated by submanifolds with special properties, such as Quaternion-Kahler. When there are 2 pairs of solutions, the closure of the isometry sub-algebra generated by the solutions requires M to be S3 or T3-fibration over a Riemann surface. 4 pairs of solutions pin down the geometry of M to very few possibilities. Finally, we propose a new supersymmetric theory for N = 1 vector multiplet on K-contact manifold admitting solutions to the Killing spinor equation.
We study the sub-Riemannian exponential for contact distributions on manifolds of dimension greater or equal to 5. We compute an approximation of the sub-Riemannian Hamiltonian flow and show that the conjugate time can have multiplicity 2 in this case. We obtain an approximation of the first conjugate locus for small radii and introduce a geometric invariant to show that the metric for contact distributions typically exhibits an original behavior, different from the classical 3-dimensional case. We apply these methods to the case of 5-dimensional contact manifolds. We provide a stability analysis of the sub-Riemannian caustic from the Lagrangian point of view and classify the singular points of the exponential map.
We construct rigid supersymmetric theories for interacting vector and tensor multiplets on six-dimensional Riemannian spin manifolds. Analyzing the Killing spinor equations, we derive the constraints on these theories. To this end, we reformulate the conditions for supersymmetry as a set of necessary and sufficient conditions on the geometry. The formalism is illustrated with a number of examples, including manifolds that are hermitian, strong Kaehler with torsion. As an application, we show that the path integral of pure super Yang-Mills theory defined on a Calabi-Yau threefold M_6 localizes on stable holomorphic bundles over M_6.
We perform a systematic study of S-duality for ${cal N}=2$ supersymmetric non-linear abelian theories on a curved manifold. Localization can be used to compute certain supersymmetric observables in these theories. We point out that localization and S-duality acting as a Legendre transform are not compatible. For these theories S-duality should be interpreted as Fourier transform and we provide some evidence for this. We also suggest the notion of a coholomological prepotential for an abelian theory that gives the same partition function as a given non-abelian supersymmetric theory.
I stress how the form of sigma models with (2, 2) supersymmetry differs depending on the number of manifest supersymmetries. The differences correspond to different aspects/formulations of Generalized Kahler Geometry.
The $mathbf{O}(D,D)$ covariant generalized metric, postulated as a truly fundamental variable, can describe novel geometries where the notion of Riemannian metric ceases to exist. Here we quantize a closed string upon such backgrounds and identify flat, anomaly-free, non-Riemannian string vacua in the familiar critical dimension, $D{=26}$ (or $D{=10}$). Remarkably, the whole BRST closed string spectrum is restricted to just one level with no tachyon, and matches the linearized equations of motion of Double Field Theory. Taken as an internal space, our non-Riemannian vacua may open up novel avenues alternative to traditional string compactification.
