We consider supersymmetric gauge theories on Riemannian three-manifolds with the topology of a three-sphere. The three-manifold is always equipped with an almost contact structure and an associated Reeb vector field. We show that the partition function depends only on this vector field, giving an explicit expression in terms of the double sine function. In the large N limit our formula agrees with a recently discovered two-parameter family of dual supergravity solutions. We also explain how our results may be applied to prove vortex-antivortex factorization. Finally, we comment on the extension of our results to three-manifolds with non-trivial fundamental group.

In this review article we describe the localization of three dimensional N=2 supersymmetric theories on compact manifolds, including the squashed sphere, S^3_b, the lens space, S^3_b/Z_p, and S^2 x S^1. We describe how to write supersymmetric actions on these spaces, and then compute the partition functions and other supersymmetric observables by employing the localization argument. We briefly survey some applications of these computations.
We study gravity duals to a broad class of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories defined on a general class of three-manifold geometries. The gravity backgrounds are based on Euclidean self-dual solutions to four-dimensional gauged supergravity. As well as constructing new examples, we prove in general that for solutions defined on the four-ball the gravitational free energy depends only on the supersymmetric Killing vector, finding a simple closed formula when the solution has U(1) x U(1) symmetry. Our result agrees with the large N limit of the free energy of the dual gauge theory, computed using localization. This constitutes an exact check of the gauge/gravity correspondence for a very broad class of gauge theories with a large N limit, defined on a general class of background three-manifold geometries.
We compute the large N limit of Wilson loop expectation values for a broad class of N=2 supersymmetric gauge theories defined on a general class of background three-manifolds M_3, diffeomorphic to S^3. We find a simple closed formula which depends on the background geometry only through a certain supersymmetric Killing vector field. The supergravity dual of such a Wilson loop is an M2-brane wrapping the M-theory circle, together with a complex curve in a self-dual Einstein manifold M_4, whose conformal boundary is M_3. We show that the regularized action of this M2-brane also depends only on the supersymmetric Killing vector, precisely reproducing the large N field theory computation.
We derive the topological obstruction to spin-Klein cobordism. This result has implications for signature change in general relativity, and for the $N=2$ superstring.
Haah codes represent a singularly interesting gapped Hamiltonian schema that has resisted a natural generalization, although recent work shows that the closely related type I fracton models are more commonplace. These type I siblings of Haah codes are better understood, and a generalized topological quantum field theory framework has been proposed. Following the same conceptual framework, we outline a program to generalize Haah codes to all 3-manifolds using Hastings LR stabilizer codes for finite groups.
