We propose a method to generate entangled states of the vibrational modes of N membranes which are coupled to a cavity mode via the radiation pressure. Using sideband excitations, we show that arbitrary entangled states of vibrational modes of different membranes can be produced in principle by sequentially applying a series of classical pulses with desired frequencies, phases and durations. As examples, we show how to synthesize several typical entangled states, for example, Bell states, NOON states, GHZ states and W states. The environmental effect, information leakage, and experimental feasibility are briefly discussed. Our proposal can also be applied to other experimental setups of optomechanical systems, in which many mechanical resonators are coupled to a common sing-mode cavity field via the radiation pressure.

We propose to mechanically control photon blockades (PB) in an optomechanical system with driving oscillators. We show that by tuning the mechanical driving parameters we achieve selective single-photon blockade (1PB) or two-photon blockade (2PB) as well as simultaneous 1PB and 2PB at the same frequency. This mechanical engineering of 1PB and 2PB can be understood from the anharmonic energy levels due to the modulation of the mechanical driving. In contrast to the optomechanical systems without any mechanical driving featuring PB only for specific optical detuning, our results can be useful for achieving novel photon sources with multi-frequency. Our work also opens up new route to mechanically engineer quantum states exhibiting highly nonclassical photon statistics.
We introduce a passively-aligned, flexure-tuned cavity optomechanical system in which a membrane is positioned microns from one end mirror of a Fabry-Perot optical cavity. By displacing the membrane through gentle flexure of its silicon supporting frame (i.e., to ~80 m radius of curvature (ROC)), we gain access to the full range of available optomechanical couplings, finding also that the optical spectrum exhibits none of the abrupt discontinuities normally found in membrane-in-the-middle (MIM) systems. More aggressive flexure (3 m ROC) enables >15 microns membrane travel, milliradian tilt tuning, and a wavelength-scale (1.64 $pm$ 0.78 microns) membrane-mirror separation. We also provide a complete set of analytical expressions for this systems leading-order dispersive and dissipative optomechanical couplings. Notably, this system can potentially generate orders of magnitude larger linear dissipative or quadratic dispersive strong coupling parameters than is possible with a MIM system. Additionally, it can generate the same purely quadratic dispersive coupling as a MIM system, but with significantly suppressed linear dissipative back-action (and force noise).
We study self-oscillations of an optomechanical system, where coherent mechanical oscillations are induced by a driven optical or microwave cavity, for the case of an anharmonic mechanical oscillator potential. A semiclassical analytical model is developed to characterize the limit cycle for large mechanical amplitudes corresponding to a weak nonlinearity. As a result, we predict conditions to achieve subpoissonian phonon statistics in the steady state, indicating classically forbidden behavior. We compare with numerical simulations and find very good agreement. Our model is quite general and can be applied to other physical systems such as trapped ions or superconducting circuits.
We propose a scheme for preparation of entangled coherent states for the motion of an ion in a two-dimensional anisotropic trap. In the scheme, the ion is driven by four laser beams along different directions in the ion trap plane, resulting in carrier excitation and couplings between the internal and external degrees of freedom. When the total quantum number of the vibrational modes initially has a definite parity, the competition between the unitary dynamics and spontaneous emission will force the system to evolve to a steady state, where the vibrational modes are in a two-mode cat state. We show that the method can be extended to realization of entangled coherent states for three vibrational modes of an ion in a three-dimensional anisotropic trap.
We study the physical properties of double-cavity optomechanical system in which the mechanical resonator interacts with one of the coupled cavities and another cavity is used as an auxiliary cavity. The model can be expected to achieve the strong optomechanical coupling strength and overcome the optomechanical cavity decay, simultaneously. Through the coherent auxiliary cavity interferences, the steady-state squeezing of mechanical resonator can be generated in highly unresolved sideband regime. The validity of the scheme is assessed by numerical simulation and theoretical analysis of the steady-state variance of the mechanical displacement quadrature. The scheme provides a platform for the mechanical squeezing beyond the resolved sideband limit and addresses the restricted experimental bounds at present.
