We adopt a three-level bosonic model to investigate the quantum phase transition in an ultracold atom-molecule conversion system which includes one atomic mode and two molecular modes. Through thoroughly exploring the properties of energy level structure, fidelity, and adiabatical geometric phase, we confirm that the system exists a second-order phase transition from an atommolecule mixture phase to a pure molecule phase. We give the explicit expression of the critical point and obtain two scaling laws to characterize this transition. In particular we find that both the critical exponents and the behaviors of ground-state geometric phase change obviously in contrast to a similar two-level model. Our analytical calculations show that the ground-state geometric phase jumps from zero to ?pi/3 at the critical point. This discontinuous behavior has been checked by numerical simulations and it can be used to identify the phase transition in the system.

In this paper, we investigate the geometric phase of the field interacting with $Xi $-type moving three-level atom. The results show that the atomic motion and the field-mode structure play important roles in the evolution of the system dynamics and geometric phase. We test this observation with experimentally accessible parameters and some new aspects are obtained.
Conventional information processors freely convert information between different physical carriers to process, store, or transmit information. It seems plausible that quantum information will also be held by different physical carriers in applications such as tests of fundamental physics, quantum-enhanced sensors, and quantum information processing. Quantum-controlled molecules in particular could transduce quantum information across a wide range of quantum-bit (qubit) frequencies, from a few kHz for transitions within the same rotational manifold, a few GHz for hyperfine transitions, up to a few THz for rotational transitions, to hundreds of THz for fundamental and overtone vibrational and electronic transitions, possibly all within the same molecule. Here, we report the first demonstration of entanglement between states of the rotation of a $rm^{40}CaH^+$ molecular ion and internal states of a $rm^{40}Ca^+$ atomic ion. The qubit addressed in the molecule has a frequency of either 13.4 kHz or 855 GHz, highlighting the versatility of molecular qubits. This work demonstrates how molecules can transduce quantum information between qubits with different frequencies to enable hybrid quantum systems. We anticipate that quantum control and measurement of molecules as demonstrated here will create opportunities for quantum information science, quantum sensors, fundamental and applied physics, and controlled quantum chemistry.

We analyze a scheme for controlling coherent photon absorption by cavity electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) in a three-level atom-cavity system. Coherent perfect absorption (CPA) can occur when time-reversed symmetry of lasing process is obtained and destructive interference happens at the cavity interfaces. Generally, the frequency range of CPA is dependent on the decay rates of cavity mirrors. When the control laser is settled, the smaller cavity decay rate causes the wider frequency range of CPA, and the input intensity is larger to satisfy CPA condition for a given frequency. While the cavity parameters are determined, Rabi frequency of the control laser has little effect on the frequency range of CPA. However, with EIT-type quantum interference, the CPA mode is tunable by the control laser. This means the CPA with given frequency and intensity of an input laser can be manipulated as the coherent non-perfect absorption (CNPA). Moreover, with the relative phase of input probe lasers, the probe fields can be perfectly transmitted and/or reflected. Therefore, the system can be used as a controllable coherent perfect absorber or transmitter and/or reflector, and our work may have practical applications in optical logic devices.

A recent proposal by Hallam et al. suggested using the chaotic properties of the semiclassical equations of motion, obtained by the time dependent variational principle (TDVP), as a characterization of quantum chaos. In this paper, we calculate the Lyapunov spectrum of the semiclassical theory approximating the quantum dynamics of a strongly interacting Rydberg atom array, which lead to periodic motion. In addition, we calculate the effect of quantum fluctuations around this approximation, and obtain the escape rate from the periodic orbit. We compare this rate to the rate extracted from the exact solution of the quantum theory, and find an order of magnitude discrepancy. We conclude that in this case, chaos in the TDVP equations does not correpond to phsyical properties of the system. Our result complement those of Ho et al. regarding the escape rate from the semiclassical periodic orbit.

A number of superconducting qubits, such as the transmon or the phase qubit, have an energy level structure with small anharmonicity. This allows for convenient access of higher excited states with similar frequencies. However, special care has to be taken to avoid unwanted higher-level populations when using short control pulses. Here we demonstrate the preparation of arbitrary three-level superposition states using optimal control techniques in a transmon. Performing dispersive read-out we extract the populations of all three levels of the qutrit and study the coherence of its excited states. Finally we demonstrate full quantum state tomography of the prepared qutrit states and evaluate the fidelities of a set of states, finding on average 96%.
