We derive a new method to improve the statistics of identified particles at high transverse momentum (pt) using online-triggered events by the Barrel Electro-Magnetic-Calorimeter (BEMC) detector. The BEMC is used to select hadronic interaction and energy deposit from showers created by charged hadrons ($pi^{pm},K^{pm}$ and $p$($bar{p}$)) in the BEMC. With this trigger, the statistics of the high pt particles are significantly enhanced by about a factor of 100 with selection efficiency up to 20%. In addition, resonant states ($rho^0$, $K^{star}$) and weak-decay V0 (Ks and La(aLa)) can be constructed by selecting the BEMC-trigger hadron as one of its daughters. We also show that the trigger efficiency can be obtained reliably in simulation and data-driven approaches.

The procedure for the STAR Barrel Electromagnetic Calorimeter (BEMC) absolute calibrations, using penetrating charged particle hits (MIP-hits) from physics events at RHIC, is presented. Its systematic and statistical errors are evaluated. It is shown that, using this technique, the equalization and transfer of the absolute scale from the test beam can be done to a percent level accuracy in a reasonable amount of time for the entire STAR BEMC. MIP-hits would also be an effective tool for continuously monitoring the variations of the BEMC towers gains, virtually without interference to STARs main physics program. The method does not rely on simulations for anything other than geometric and some other small corrections, and also for estimations of the systematic errors. It directly transfers measured test beam responses to operations at RHIC.

New physics beyond the Standard Model could well preferentially show up at the LHC in final states with taus. The development of efficient and accurate reconstruction and identification of taus is therefore an important item in the CMS physics programme. The potentially superior performance of a particle-flow approach can help to achieve this goal with the CMS detector. Preliminary strategies are presented in this summary for the hadronic decays of the taus.
The construction of a new detector is proposed to extend the capabilities of ALICE in the high transverse momentum (pT) region. This Very High Momentum Particle Identification Detector (VHMPID) performs charged hadron identification on a track-by-track basis in the 5 GeV/c < p < 25 GeV/c momentum range and provides ALICE with new opportunities to study parton-medium interactions at LHC energies. The VHMPID covers up to 30% of the ALICE central barrel and presents sufficient acceptance for triggered- and tagged-jet studies, allowing for the first time identified charged hadron measurements in jets. This Letter of Intent summarizes the physics motivations for such a detector as well as its layout and integration into ALICE.
The CALICE Semi-Digital Hadronic CALorimeter (SDHCAL) prototype using Glass Resistive Plate Chambers as a sensitive medium is the first technological prototype of a family of high-granularity calorimeters developed by the CALICE collaboration to equip the experiments of future leptonic colliders. It was exposed to beams of hadrons, electrons and muons several times in the CERN PS and SPS beamlines between 2012 and 2018. We present here a new method of particle identification within the SDHCAL using the Boosted Decision Trees (BDT) method applied to the data collected in 2015. The performance of the method is tested first with Geant4-based simulated events and then on the data collected by the SDHCAL in the energy range between 10 and 80~GeV with 10~GeV energy steps. The BDT method is then used to reject the electrons and muons that contaminate the SPS hadron beams.

We report results on J/psi-hadron azimuthal angular correlations in 200 GeV p+p collision in the STAR experiment at RHIC. The extracted B-hadron feed-down contribution to inclusive J/psi yield is found to be 10-25% in 4<p_T<12 GeV/c and has no significant center-of-mass energy dependence from RHIC to LHC. The p_T spectrum of charged hadron associated with high-p_T J/psi triggers on the away side is found to be consistent with that from di-hadron correlations. J/psi signal from partially produced Au+Au 39 GeV data will also be presented to demonstrate STARs J/psi capability at RHIC low energy run.
