An oxygen hyperstoichiometric ferrite CaBaFe4O7+delta (delta approx 0.14) has been synthesized using soft reduction of CaBaFe4O8. Like the oxygen stoichiometric ferrimagnet CaBaFe4O7, this oxide also keeps the hexagonal symmetry (space group: P63mc), and exhibits the same high Curie temperature of 270 K. However, the introduction of extra oxygen into the system weakens the ferrimagnetic interaction significantly at the cost of increased magnetic frustration at low temperature. Moreover, this canonical spin glass (Tg ~ 166 K) exhibits an intriguing cross-over from de Almeida-Thouless type to Gabay-Toulouse type critical line in the field temperature plane above a certain field strength, which can be identified as the anisotropy field. Domain wall pinning is also observed below 110 K. These results are interpreted on the basis of cationic disordering on the iron sites.

Iron resonant valance band photoemission spectra of Sr substituted LaFe0.75Ni0.25 O3-{delta} have been recorded across the Fe 2p - 3d absorption threshold to obtain Fe specific spectral information on the 3d projected partial density of states. Comparison with La1-xSrxFeO3 resonant VB PES literature data suggests that substitution of Fe by Ni forms electron holes which are mainly O 2p character. Substitution of La by Sr increases the hole concentration to an extent that the eg structure vanishes. The variation of the eg and t2g structures is paralleled by the changes in the electrical conductivity.

Epitaxial thin films of hexagonal ErMnO3 fabricated on Pt(111)/Al2O3(0001) and YSZ(111) substrates exhibited both ferroelectric character and magnetic ordering at low temperatures. As the temperature was reduced, the ErMnO3 films first showed antiferromagnetism. At lower temperatures, the films deposited at lower oxygen partial pressures exhibited spin glass behavior. This re-entrant spin glass behavior was attributed to competition between an antiferromagnetic interaction in the hexagonal geometry and a ferromagnetic interaction caused by a change in Mn valence induced by excess electrons from the oxygen vacancies.
Correlation effects are important for making predictions in the delta phase of Pu. Using a realistic treatment of the intra-atomic Coulomb correlations we address the long-standing problem of computing ground state properties. The equilibrium volume is obtained in good agreement with experiment when taking into account Hubbard U of the order 4 eV. For this U, the calculation predicts a 5f5 atomic-like configuration with L=5, S=5/2, and J=5/2 and shows a nearly complete compensation between spin and orbital magnetic moments.
The results of dc and ac magnetization, heat-capacity, 57Fe Moessbauer spectroscopy, dielectric, pyroelectric current and isothermal magneto-capacitance measurements on a recently reported lithium-based oxide, Li3FeRuO6, related to LiCoO2-type rhombohedral structure (space group, R-3m) are presented. The results reveal that the compound undergoes spin-glass freezing below 15 K. There is a peak around 34 K in pyroelectric data, which can not be attributed to ferroelectricity, but to the phenomenon of thermally stimulated depolarization current. As revealed by magnetocapacitance data above and below magnetic ordering temperature, magnetic and electric dipoles appear to be coupled, thereby offering evidence for magnetodielectric coupling.

High stability and oxygen permeability are two prominent requirements for the oxygen transport membrane candidates used as industrialization. Herein, we report several composite membranes based on xwt.%Ce0.9Pr0.1O2(CPO)-(100-x)wt.%Pr0.6Sr0.4Fe0.8Al0.2O3(PSFAO) (x = 50, 60 and 75) prepared via a modified Pechini method. Oxygen permeability test reveals that the 60CPO-40PSFAO composition exhibits the highest oxygen permeability. The oxygen permeation flux through the optimal uncoated 0.33 mm-thickness 60CPO-40PSFAO composite can reach 1.03 mL cm-2 min-1 (over the general requirement value of 1 mL cm-2 min-1) in air/He atmosphere at 1000 {deg}C. In situ XRD performance confirms the optimal 60CPO-40PSFAO sample shows excellent stability in CO2-containing atmospheres. The 60CPO-40PSFAO membrane still exhibits simultaneously excellent oxygen permeability and phase stability after operating for over 100 h at air/CO2 condition at 1000 {deg}C, which further indicates that the 60CPO-40PSFAO composite is likely to be used for oxygen supply in CO2 capture
