The depth profile of the intrinsic magnetic properties in an Fe/Sm-Co bilayer fabricated under nearly optimal spring-magnet conditions was determined by complementary studies of polarized neutron reflectometry and micromagnetic simulations. We found that at the Fe/Sm-Co interface the magnetic properties change gradually at the length scale of 8 nm. In this intermixed interfacial region, the saturation magnetization and magnetic anisotropy are lower and the exchange stiffness is higher than values estimated from the model based on a mixture of Fe and Sm-Co phases. Therefore, the intermixed interface yields superior exchange coupling between the Fe and Sm-Co layers, but at the cost of average magnetization.

Thin highly epitaxial BiFeO$_3$ films were prepared on SrTiO$_3$ (100) substrates by reactive magnetron co-sputtering. Detailed MOKE measurements on BiFeO$_3$/Co-Fe bilayers were performed to investigate the exchange bias as a function of the films thicknesses and Co-Fe stoichiometries. We found a maximum exchange bias of H$_{mathrm{eb}}$=92 Oe and a coercive field of H$_{mathrm{c}}$=89 Oe for a 12.5 nm thick BiFeO$_3$ film with a 2 nm thick Co layer. The unidirectional anisotropy is clearly visible in in-plane rotational MOKE measurements. AMR measurements reveal a strongly increasing coercivity with decreasing temperature, but no significant change in the exchange bias field.
A large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) has been observed in ferromagnetic $textrm{Fe}_3textrm{Sn}_2$ with breathing kagome bilayers. To understand the underlying mechanism for this, we investigate the electronic structure of $textrm{Fe}_3textrm{Sn}_2$ by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). In particular, we use both vacuum ultraviolet light (VUV) and soft x ray (SX), which allow surface-sensitive and relatively bulk-sensitive measurements, respectively, and distinguish bulk states from surface states, which should be unlikely related to the AHE. While VUV-ARPES observes two-dimensional bands mostly due to surface states, SX-ARPES reveals three-dimensional band dispersions with a periodicity of the rhombohedral unit cell in the bulk. Our data show a good consistency with a theoretical calculation based on density functional theory, suggesting a possibility that $textrm{Fe}_3textrm{Sn}_2$ is a magnetic Weyl semimetal.
We demonstrate the magnetically-induced transparency (MIT) effect in Y$_3$Fe$_5$O$_{12}$(YIG)/Permalloy(Py) coupled bilayers. The measurement is achieved via a heterodyne detection of the coupled magnetization dynamics using a single wavelength that probes the magneto-optical Kerr and Faraday effects of Py and YIG, respectively. Clear features of the MIT effect are evident from the deeply modulated ferromagnetic resonance of Py due to the perpendicular-standing-spin-wave of YIG. We develop a phenomenological model that nicely reproduces the experimental results including the induced amplitude and phase evolution caused by the magnon-magnon coupling. Our work offers a new route towards studying phase-resolved spin dynamics and hybrid magnonic systems.
Using an atomistic spin model, we have simulated spin wave injection and propagation into antiferromagnetic IrMn from an exchange coupled CoFe layer. The spectral characteristics of the exited spin waves have a complex beating behavior arising from the non-collinear nature of the antiferromagnetic order. We find that the frequency response of the system depends strongly on the strength and frequency of oscillating field excitations. We also find that the strength of excited spin waves strongly decays away from the interfacial layer with a frequency dependent attenuation. Our findings suggest that spin waves generated by coupled ferromagnets are too weak to reverse IrMn in their entirety even with resonant excitation of a coupled ferromagnet. However, efficient spin wave injection into the antiferromagnet is possible due to the non-collinear nature of the IrMn spin ordering.
Organic semiconductor/ferromagnetic bilayer thin films can exhibit novel properties due to the formation of the spinterface at the interface. Buckminsterfullerene (C60) has been shown to exhibit ferromagnetism at the interface when it is placed next to a ferromagnet (FM) such as Fe or Co. Formation of spinterface occurs due to the orbital hybridization and spin polarized charge transfer at the interface. In this work, we have demonstrated that one can tune the magnetic anisotropy of the low Gilbert damping alloy CoFeB by introducing a C60 layer. We have shown that anisotropy is enhanced by increasing the thickness of C60 which might be a result of the formation of spinterface. However, the magnetic domain structure remains same in the bilayer samples as compared to the reference CoFeB film.
