We investigate the effects of pseudoscalar-photon mixing on electromagnetic radiation in the presence of correlated extragalactic magnetic fields. We model the Universe as a collection of magnetic domains and study the propagation of radiation through them. This leads to correlations between Stokes parameters over large scales and consistently explains the observed large-scale alignment of quasar polarizations at different redshifts within the framework of the big bang model.

We study the effects of primordial magnetic fields on the inflationary potential in the context of a warm inflation scenario. The model, based on global supersymmetry with a new-inflation-type potential and a coupling between the inflaton and a heavy intermediate superfield, is already known to preserve the flatness required for slow-roll conditions even after including thermal contributions. Here we show that the magnetic field makes the potential even flatter, retarding the transition and rendering it smoother.
We study the evolution of axions interacting with primordial magnetic fields (PMFs) starting just from the QCD phase transition in the expanding universe. This interaction is owing to the Primakoff effect. Adopting the zero mode approximation for axions, we derive the system of equations for axions and magnetic fields, where the expansion of the universe and the spectra of magnetic fields are accounted for exactly. We find that the contribution of the Primakoff effect to the dynamics of axions and magnetic fields is rather weak. It confirms some previous estimates leading to analogous conclusions, when accounting here for the Hubble expansion both for an uniform axion field and non-uniform PMFs using Fourier spectra for their energy and helicity densities. We solve the corresponding system of the evolution equations and find that the axion zero mode, when evolving during radiation era, has its amplitude at the level sufficient for that axion to be a good candidate for the cold dark matter.
We model the effect of photon and ultra-light pseudoscalar mixing on the propagation of electromagnetic radiation through the extragalactic medium. The medium is modelled as a large number of magnetic domains, uncorrelated with one another. We obtain an analytic expression for the different Stokes parameters in the limit of small mixing angle. The different Stokes parameters are found to increase linearly with the number of domains. We also verify this result by direct numerical simulations. We use this formalism to estimate the effect of pseudoscalar-photon mixing on the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization. We impose limits on the model parameters by the CMB observations. We find that the currently allowed parameter range admits a CMB circular polarization up to order $10^{-7}$.
We study the pion and kaon properties in nuclear medium at nonvanishing temperature and baryon density as well as in the presence of magnetic field in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model with the help of the proper-time regularization scheme, simulating a confinement. The density dependent of the quark masses are obtained from the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model in the symmetric nuclear matter at the quark level. We analyze the quark condensate, dynamical mass, pion and kaon masses, pion- and kaon-quark coupling constants as well as wave function renormalization factors for those mesons of finite temperature and in the presence of magnetic field for different baryon densities. We find the chiral condensate for the up quark suppresses with increasing temperature and baryon density and enhances under the presence of magnetic field. Interestingly, we find that the wave function renormalization for the pion and kaon increases with respect to the temperature and decreases as the baryon density increases.
We calculate the momentum dependence of the $rho^0-omega$ mixing amplitude in vacuum with vector nucleon-nucleon interaction in presence of a constant homogeneous weak magnetic field background. The mixing amplitude is generated by the nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interaction and thus driven by the neutron-proton mass difference along with a constant magnetic field. We find a significant effect of magnetic field on the mixing amplitude. We also calculate the Charge symmetry violating (CSV) $NN$ potential induced by the magnetic field dependent mixing amplitude. The presence of the magnetic field influences the $NN$ potential substantially which can have important consequences in highly magnetized astrophysical compact objects, such as magnetars. The most important observation of this work is that the mixing amplitude is non-zero, leading to positive contribute to the CSV potential if the proton and neutron masses are taken to be equal.
