The conditions for a generalized Burgers equation which a priori involves nine arbitrary functions of one, or two variables to allow an infinite dimensional symmetry algebra are determined. Though this algebra can involve up to two arbitrary functions of time, it does not allow a Virasoro algebra. This result confirms that variable coefficient generalizations of a non-integrable equation should be expected to remain as such.

A generalized Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation, describing water waves in oceans of varying depth, density and vorticity is discussed. A priori, it involves 9 arbitrary functions of one, or two variables. The conditions are determined under which the equation allows an infinite dimensional symmetry algebra. This algebra can involve up to three arbitrary functions of time. It depends on precisely three such functions if and only if it is completely integrable.
Burgers equation is one of the simplest nonlinear partial differential equations-it combines the basic processes of diffusion and nonlinear steepening. In some applications it is appropriate for the diffusion coefficient to be a time-dependent function. Using a Waynes transformation and centre manifold theory, we derive l-mode and 2-mode centre manifold models of the generalised Burgers equations for bounded smooth time dependent coefficients. These modellings give some interesting extensions to existing results such as the similarity solutions using the similarity method.

We consider a class of generalized Kuznetsov--Zabolotskaya--Khokhlov (gKZK) equations and determine its equivalence group, which is then used to give a complete symmetry classification of this class. The infinite-dimensional symmetry is used to reduce such equations to (1+1)-dimensional PDEs. Special attention is paid to group-theoretical properties of a class of generalized dispersionless KP (gdKP) or Zabolotskaya--Khokhlov equations as a subclass of gKZK equations. The conditions are determined under which a gdKP equation is invariant under a Lie algebra containing the Virasoro algebra as a subalgebra. This occurs if and only if this equation is completely integrable. A similar connection is shown to hold for generalized KP equations.
We carry out the group classification of the class of two-dimensional shallow water equations with variable bottom topography using an optimized version of the method of furcate splitting. The equivalence group of this class is found by the algebraic method. Using algebraic techniques, we construct additional point equivalences between some of the listed cases of Lie-symmetry extensions, which are inequivalent up to transformations from the equivalence group.

Within the (2 + 1)-dimensional Korteweg-de Vries equation framework, new bilinear Backlund transformation and Lax pair are presented based on the binary Bell polynomials and gauge transformation. By introducing an arbitrary function, a family of deformed soliton and deformed breather solutions are presented with the improved Hirotas bilinear method. Choosing the appropriate parameters, their interesting dynamic behaviors are shown in three-dimensional plots. Furthermore, novel rational solutions are generated by taking the limit of obtained solitons. Additionally, two dimensional [2D] rogue waves (localized in both space and time) on the soliton plane are presented, we refer to it as deformed 2D rogue waves. The obtained deformed 2D rogue waves can be viewed as a 2D analog of the Peregrine soliton on soliton plane, and its evolution process is analyzed in detail. The deformed 2D rogue wave solutions are constructed successfully, which are closely related to the arbitrary function. This new idea is also applicable to other nonlinear systems.
