In this article we present a first discovery of non radial pulsations in both components of the Herbig Ae spectroscopic binary star RS Cha. The binary was monitored in quasi-continuous observations during 14 observing nights (Jan 2006) at the 1m Mt John (New Zealand) telescope with the Hercules high-resolution echelle spectrograph. The cumulated exposure time on the star was 44 hrs, corresponding to 255 individual high-resolution echelle spectra with $R = 45000$. Least square deconvolved spectra (LSD) were obtained for each spectrum representing the effective photospheric absorption profile modified by pulsations. Difference spectra were calculated by subtracting rotationally broadened artificial profiles; these residual spectra were analysed and non-radial pulsations were detected. A subsequent analysis with two complementary methods, namely Fourier Parameter Fit (FPF) and Fourier 2D (F2D) has been performed and first constraints on the pulsation modes have been derived. In fact, both components of the spectroscopic binary are Herbig Ae stars and both show NRPs. The FPF method identified 2 modes for the primary component with (degree l, azimuthal number m) couples ordered by decreasing probability: f_1 = 21.11 c/d with (l,m) = (11,11), (11,9) or (10,6) and f_2 = 30.38 c/d with (l,m) = (10,6) or (9,5). The F2D analysis indicates for f_1 a degree l = 8-10. For the secondary component, the FPF method identified 3 modes with (l,m) ordered by decreasing probability: f_1 = 12.81 c/d with (l,m) = (2,1) or (2,2), f_2b = 19.11 c/d with (l,m) = (13,5) or (10,5) and f_3 = 24.56 c/d with (l,m) = (6,3) or (6,5). The F2D analysis indicates for f_1 a degree l = 2 or 3, but proposes a contradictory identification of f_2 as a radial pulsation (l = 0).

Stellar components in binaries are subject to tidal forces which influence asteroseismic properties. Tidally pertubed pulsations have been reported for different objects but none of these are in their pre-main sequence phase of evolution. This makes RS Cha, consisting of two $delta$ Scuti stars and with pulsational characteristics influenced by tidal effects , the first such object observed. We aim to investigate the pulsational properties of the eclipsing binary RS Cha in terms of the theory of tidally perturbed pulsations. Based on photometric time series obtained from the TESS satellite, we performed binary modelling using PHOEBE to interpret the binary light curve and to allow the investigation of the pulsations of both components in RS Cha. We modelled the detrended light curve with the superposition of linear modes. The frequencies were then interpreted as self excited modes perturbed by tidal forces. We find evidence for tidally perturbed modes, which enables the identification of pulsation modes. RS Cha mainly exhibits dipole modes, while one prominent $l=2$ or $l=3$ mode is also inferred. The latter verifies previous results from spectroscopic time series. This work shows that RS Cha is an ideal candidate to test the theory of tidally perturbed pulsations within the framework of asteroseismic modelling. The identification of multiple pulsation modes using this theory is unprecedented and will be a keystone in the future of pre-main sequence asteroseismology. However, amplitude modulation caused by the changing light ratio during the orbital phase in an eclipsing binary also plays a significant role, which can complicate mode identification.
PDS 144 is a pair of Herbig Ae stars that are separated by 5.35 on the sky. It has previously been shown to have an A2Ve Herbig Ae star viewed at 83circ inclination as its northern member and an A5Ve Herbig Ae star as its southern member. Direct imagery revealed a disk occulting PDS 144 N - the first edge-on disk observed around a Herbig Ae star. The lack of an obvious disk in direct imagery suggested PDS 144 S might be viewed face-on or not physically associated with PDS 144 N. Multi-epoch Hubble Space Telescope imagery of PDS 144 with a 5 year baseline demonstrates PDS 144 N & S are comoving and have a common proper motion with TYC 6782-878-1. TYC 6782-878-1 has previously been identified as a member of Upper Sco sub-association A at d = 145 pm 2 pc with an age of 5-10 Myr. Ground-based imagery reveals jets and a string of Herbig-Haro knots extending 13 (possibly further) which are aligned to within 7circ pm 6circ on the sky. By combining proper motion data and the absence of a dark mid-plane with radial velocity data, we measure the inclination of PDS 144 S to be i = 73circ pm 7circ. The radial velocity of the jets from PDS 144 N & S indicates they, and therefore their disks, are misaligned by 25circ pm 9circ. This degree of misalignment is similar to that seen in T Tauri wide binaries.
High-resolution spectroscopic observations of the rapidly rotating delta Scuti star gamma Bootis have been carried out on 2005, over 6 consecutive nights, in order to search for line-profile variability. Time series, consisting of flux measurements at each wavelength bin across the TiII 4571.917 A line profile as a function of time, have been Fourier analyzed. The results confirm the early detection reported by Kennelly et al. (1992) of a dominant periodic component at frequency 21.28 c/d in the observers frame, probably due to a high azimuthal order sectorial mode. Moreover, we found other periodicities at 5.06 c/d, 12.09 c/d, probably present but not secure, and at 11.70 c/d and 18.09 c/d, uncertain. The latter frequency, if present, should be identifiable as another high azimuthal order sectorial mode and three additional terms, probably due to low-l modes, as proved by the analysis of the first three moments of the line. Owing to the short time baseline and the one-site temporal sampling we consider our results only preliminary but encouraging for a more extensive multisite campaign. A refinement of the atmospheric physical parameters of the star has been obtained from our spectroscopic data and adopted for preliminary computations of evolutionary models of gamma Bootis.
The intermediate mass Herbig Ae star V1787 Ori is a member of the L1641 star-forming region in the Orion A molecular cloud. We report the detection of an M-type companion to V1787 Ori at a projected separation of 6.66 (corresponding to 2577 au), from the analysis of VLT/NACO adaptive optics $K_s$-band image. Using astrometric data from Gaia DR2, we show that V1787 Ori A and B share similar distance ($d$ $sim$ 387 pc) and proper motion, indicating that they are physically associated. We estimate the spectral type of V1787 Ori B to be M5 $pm$ 2 from color--spectral type calibration tables and template matching using SpeX spectral library. By fitting PARSEC models in the Pan-STARRS color-magnitude diagram, we find that V1787 Ori B has an age of 8.1$^{+1.7}_{-1.5}$ Myr and a mass of 0.39$^{+0.02}_{-0.05}$ $M_odot$. We show that V1787 Ori is a pre-main sequence wide binary system with a mass ratio of 0.23. Such a low mass ratio system is rarely identified in Herbig Ae/Be binary systems. We conclude this work with a discussion on possible mechanisms for the formation of V1787 Ori wide binary system.
Chandra X-ray imaging spectroscopy of the nearby Herbig Ae star HD 163296 at 100 AU angular resolution is reported. A point-like, soft (kT~0.5 keV), emission-line source is detected at the location of the star with an X-ray luminosity of 4.0e29 erg/s. In addition, faint emission along the direction of a previously-detected Ly-alpha-emitting jet and Herbig-Haro outflow may be present. The relatively low luminosity, lack of a hard spectral component, and absence of strong X-ray variability in HD 163296 can be explained as originating from optically-thin shock-heated gas accreting onto the stellar surface along magnetic field lines. This would require a (dipole) magnetic field strength at the surface of HD 163296 of at least ~100 G and perhaps as high as several kG. HD 163296 joins the T Tauri star TW Hya in being the only examples known to date of pre-main-sequence stars whose quiescent X-ray emission appears to be completely dominated by accretion.
