In this article, we analyze the propagation of Wigner measures of a family of solutions to a system of semi-classical pseudodifferential equations presenting eigenvalues crossings on hypersurfaces. We prove the propagation along classical trajectories under a geometric condition which is satisfied for example as soon as the Hamiltonian vector fields are transverse or tangent at finite order to the crossing set. We derive resolvent estimates for semi-classical Schrodinger operator with matrix-valued potential under a geometric condition of the same type on the crossing set and we analyze examples of degenerate situations where one can prove transfers between the modes.
We are dealing with boundary conditions for Dirac-type operators, i.e., first order differential operators with matrix-valued coefficients, including in particular physical many-body Dirac operators. We characterize (what we conjecture is) the general form of reflecting boundary conditions (which includes known boundary conditions such as the one of the MIT bag model) and, as our main goal, of interior-boundary conditions (IBCs). IBCs are a new approach to defining UV-regular Hamiltonians for quantum field theories without smearing particles out or discretizing space. For obtaining such Hamiltonians, the method of IBCs provides an alternative to renormalization and has been successfully used so far in non-relativistic models, where it could be applied also in cases in which no renormalization method was known. A natural next question about IBCs is how to set them up for the Dirac equation, and here we take first steps towards the answer. For quantum field theories, the relevant boundary consists of the surfaces in $n$-particle configuration space $mathbb{R}^{3n}$ on which two particles have the same location in $mathbb{R}^3$. While this boundary has codimension 3, we focus here on the more basic situation in which the boundary has codimension 1 in configuration space. We describe specific examples of IBCs for the Dirac equation, we prove for some of these examples that they rigorously define self-adjoint Hamiltonians, and we develop the general form of IBCs for Dirac-type operators.
We prove resolvent estimates for semiclassical operators such as $-h^2 Delta+V(x)$ in scattering situations. Provided the set of trapped classical trajectories supports a chaotic flow and is sufficiently filamentary, the analytic continuation of the resolvent is bounded by $h^{-M}$ in a strip whose width is determined by a certain topological pressure associated with the classical flow. This polynomial estimate has applications to local smoothing in Schrodinger propagation and to energy decay of solutions to wave equations.
This paper is devoted to the study of a semiclassical black box operator $P$. We estimate the norm of its resolvent truncated near the trapped set by the norm of its resolvent truncated on rings far away from the origin. For $z$ in the unphysical sheet with $- h |ln h| < Im z < 0$, we prove that this estimate holds with a constant $h |Im z|^{-1} e^{C|Im z|/h}$. We also obtain analogous bounds for the resonances states of $P$. These results hold without any assumption on the trapped set neither any assumption on the multiplicity of the resonances.
It was recently shown [2] that the resolvent algebra of a non-relativistic Bose field determines a gauge invariant (particle number preserving) kinematical algebra of observables which is stable under the automorphic action of a large family of interacting dynamics involving pair potentials. In the present article, this observable algebra is extended to a field algebra by adding to it isometries, which transform as tensors under gauge transformations and induce particle number changing morphisms of the observables. Different morphisms are linked by intertwiners in the observable algebra. It is shown that such intertwiners also induce time translations of the morphisms. As a consequence, the field algebra is stable under the automorphic action of the interacting dynamics as well. These results establish a concrete C*-algebraic framework for interacting non-relativistic Bose systems in infinite space. It provides an adequate basis for studies of long range phenomena, such as phase transitions, stability properties of equilibrium states, condensates, and the breakdown of symmetries.
In the present paper we investigate the set $Sigma_J$ of all $J$-self-adjoint extensions of a symmetric operator $S$ with deficiency indices $<2,2>$ which commutes with a non-trivial fundamental symmetry $J$ of a Krein space $(mathfrak{H}, [cdot, cdot])$, SJ=JS. Our aim is to describe different types of $J$-self-adjoint extensions of $S$. One of our main results is the equivalence between the presence of $J$-self-adjoint extensions of $S$ with empty resolvent set and the commutation of $S$ with a Clifford algebra ${mathcal C}l_2(J,R)$, where $R$ is an additional fundamental symmetry with $JR=-RJ$. This enables one to construct the collection of operators $C_{chi,omega}$ realizing the property of stable $C$-symmetry for extensions $AinSigma_J$ directly in terms of ${mathcal C}l_2(J,R)$ and to parameterize the corresponding subset of extensions with stable $C$-symmetry. Such a situation occurs naturally in many applications, here we discuss the case of an indefinite Sturm-Liouville operator on the real line and a one dimensional Dirac operator with point interaction.
