High Tc superconductivity in FeAs-based multilayers (pnictides), evading temperature decoherence effects in a quantum condensate, is assigned to a Feshbach resonance (called also shape resonance) in the exchange-like interband pairing. The resonance is switched on by tuning the chemical potential at an electronic topological transition (ETT) near a band edge, where the Fermi surface topology of one of the subbands changes from 1D to 2D topology. We show that the tuning is realized by changing i) the misfit strain between the superconducting planes and the spacers ii) the charge density and iii) the disorder. The system is at the verge of a catastrophe i.e. near a structural and magnetic phase transition associated with the stripes (analogous to the 1/8 stripe phase in cuprates) order to disorder phase transition. Fine tuning of both the chemical potential and the disorder pushes the critical temperature Ts of this phase transition to zero giving a quantum critical point. Here the quantum lattice and magnetic fluctuations promote the Feshbach resonance of the exchange-like anisotropic pairing. This superconducting phase that resists to the attacks of temperature is shown to be controlled by the interplay of the hopping energy between stripes and the quantum fluctuations. The superconducting gaps in the multiple Fermi surface spots reported by the recent ARPES experiment of D. V. Evtushinsky et al. arXiv:0809.4455 are shown to support the Feshbach scenario.

We report the temperature dependent x-ray powder diffraction of the FeAs-based superconductors in the range between 300 K and 95 K. In the case of NdOFeAs we have detected the structural phase transition from the tetragonal phase, with P4/nmm space group, to the orthorhombic phase, with Cmma space group, over a broad temperature range from 150 K to 120 K, centered at T0 137K. This transition is reduced, by about 30K, by the internal chemical pressure going from LaOFeAs to NdOFeAs. On the contrary the superconducting critical temperature increases from 27K to 51 K going from LaOFeAs to NdOFeAs doped samples. The FeAs layers in all undoped 1111 and 122 systems suffer a tensile misfit strain. The tensile misfit strain is reduced in 1111 and in 122 samples and at optimum doping the misfit strain is close to zero. This result shows that the normal striped orthorhombic Cmma phase competes with the superconducting tetragonal phase. In the orthorhombic clusters the charges can move only along the stripes in the b direction and are localized by the magnetic interaction.
In this work we study thermodynamic manifestations of the quantum criticality in multiband unconventional superconductors. As a guiding example we consider the scenario of magnetic quantum critical point in the model that captures superconductivity coexistence with the spin-density wave. We show that in situations when superconducting order parameter has incidental nodes at isolated points, quantum magnetic fluctuations lead to the renormalization of the relative $T$-linear slope of the London penetration depth. This leads to the nonmonotonic dependence of the penetration depth as a function of doping and the concomitant peak structure across the quantum critical point. In addition, we determine contribution of magnetic fluctuations to the specific heat at the onset of coexistence phase. Our theoretical analysis is corroborated by making a comparison of our results with the recent experimental data from the low-temperature thermodynamic measurements at optimal composition in BaFe$_2$(As$_{1-x}$P$_x$)$_2$.

Recently it was found that selenium doping can suppress the charge-density-wave (CDW) order and induce bulk superconductivity in ZrTe$_3$. The observed superconducting dome suggests the existence of a CDW quantum critical point (QCP) in ZrTe$_{3-x}$Se$_x$ near $x approx$ 0.04. To elucidate its superconducting state near the CDW QCP, we measure the thermal conductivity of two ZrTe$_{3-x}$Se$_x$ single crystals ($x$ = 0.044 and 0.051) down to 80 mK. For both samples, the residual linear term $kappa_0/T$ at zero field is negligible, which is a clear evidence for nodeless superconducting gap. Furthermore, the field dependence of $kappa_0/T$ manifests multigap behavior. These results demonstrate multiple nodeless superconducting gaps in ZrTe$_{3-x}$Se$_x$, which indicates conventional superconductivity despite of the existence of a CDW QCP.

The magnetic fluctuations associated with a quantum critical point (QCP) are widely believed to cause the non-Fermi liquid behaviors and unconventional superconductivities, for example, in heavy fermion systems and high temperature cuprate superconductors. Recently, superconductivity has been discovered in iron-based layered compound $LaO_{1-x}F_xFeAs$ with $T_c$=26 Kcite{yoichi}, and it competes with spin-density-wave (SDW) ordercite{dong}. Neutron diffraction shows a long-rang SDW-type antiferromagnetic (AF) order at $sim 134$ K in LaOFeAscite{cruz, mcguire}. Therefore, a possible QCP and its role in this system are of great interests. Here we report the detailed phase diagram and anomalous transport properties of the new high-Tc superconductors $SmO_{1-x}F_xFeAs$ discovered by uscite{chenxh}. It is found that superconductivity emerges at $xsim$0.07, and optimal doping takes place in the $xsim$0.20 sample with highest $T_c sim $54 K. While $T_c$ increases monotonically with doping, the SDW order is rapidly suppressed, suggesting a QCP around $x sim$0.14. As manifestations, a linear temperature dependence of the resistivity shows up at high temperatures in the $x<0.14$ regime, but at low temperatures just above $T_c$ in the $x>0.14$ regime; a drop in carrier density evidenced by a pronounced rise in Hall coefficient are observed, which mimic the high-$T_c$ cuprates. The simultaneous occurrence of order, carrier density change and criticality makes a compelling case for a quantum critical point in this system.
We report resistivity and upper critical field B_c2(T) data for disordered (As deficient) LaO_0.9F_0.1FeAs_1-delta in a wide temperature and high field range up to 60 T. These samples exhibit a slightly enhanced superconducting transition at T_c = 28.5 K and a significantly enlarged slope dB_c2/dT = -5.4 T/K near T_c which contrasts with a flattening of B_c2(T) starting near 23 K above 30 T. The latter evidences Pauli limiting behaviour (PLB) with B_c2(0) approximately 63 T. We compare our results with B_c2(T)-data from the literature for clean and disordered samples. Whereas clean samples show almost no PLB for fields below 60 to 70 T, the hitherto unexplained pronounced flattening of B_c2(T) for applied fields H II ab observed for several disordered closely related systems is interpreted also as a manifestation of PLB. Consequences are discussed in terms of disorder effects within the frames of (un)conventional superconductivity, respectively.
