This paper introduces Archer, a community-based computing resource for computer architecture research and education. The Archer infrastructure integrates virtualization and batch scheduling middleware to deliver high-throughput computing resources aggregated from resources distributed across wide-area networks and owned by different participating entities in a seamless manner. The paper discusses the motivations leading to the design of Archer, describes its core middleware components, and presents an analysis of the functionality and performance of a prototype wide-area deployment running a representative computer architecture simulation workload.

AstroCloud is a cyber-Infrastructure for Astronomy Research initiated by Chinese Virtual Observatory (China-VO) under funding support from NDRC (National Development and Reform commission) and CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences). The ultimate goal of this project is to provide a comprehensive end-to-end astronomy research environment where several independent systems seamlessly collaborate to support the full lifecycle of the modern observational astronomy based on big data, from proposal submission, to data archiving, data release, and to in-situ data analysis and processing. In this paper, the architecture and key designs of the AstroCloud platform are introduced, including data access middleware, access control and security framework, extendible proposal workflow, and system integration mechanism.
SpinQ Gemini is a commercial desktop quantum computer designed and manufactured by SpinQ Technology. It is an integrated hardware-software system. The first generation product with two qubits was launched in January 2020. The hardware is based on NMR spectrometer, with permanent magnets providing $sim 1$ T magnetic field. SpinQ Gemini operates under room temperature ($0$-$30^{circ}$C), highlighting its lightweight (55 kg with a volume of $70times 40 times 80$ cm$^3$), cost-effective (under $50$k USD), and maintenance-free. SpinQ Gemini aims to provide real-device experience for quantum computing education for K-12 and at the college level. It also features quantum control design capabilities that benefit the researchers studying quantum control and quantum noise. Since its first launch, SpinQ Gemini has been shipped to institutions in Canada, Taiwan and Mainland China. This paper introduces the system of design of SpinQ Gemini, from hardware to software. We also demonstrate examples for performing quantum computing tasks on SpinQ Gemini, including one task for a variational quantum eigensolver of a two-qubit Heisenberg model. The next generations of SpinQ quantum computing devices will adopt models of more qubits, advanced control functions for researchers with comparable cost, as well as simplified models for much lower cost (under $5$k USD) for K-12 education. We believe that low-cost portable quantum computer products will facilitate hands-on experience for teaching quantum computing at all levels, well-prepare younger generations of students and researchers for the future of quantum technologies.
While cycle-accurate simulators are essential tools for architecture research, design, and development, their practicality is limited by an extremely long time-to-solution for realistic problems under investigation. This work describes a concerted effort, where machine learning (ML) is used to accelerate discrete-event simulation. First, an ML-based instruction latency prediction framework that accounts for both static instruction/architecture properties and dynamic execution context is constructed. Then, a GPU-accelerated parallel simulator is implemented based on the proposed instruction latency predictor, and its simulation accuracy and throughput are validated and evaluated against a state-of-the-art simulator. Leveraging modern GPUs, the ML-based simulator outperforms traditional simulators significantly.
One of the most demanding challenges for the designers of parallel computing architectures is to deliver an efficient network infrastructure providing low latency, high bandwidth communications while preserving scalability. Besides off-chip communications between processors, recent multi-tile (i.e. multi-core) architectures face the challenge for an efficient on-chip interconnection network between processors tiles. In this paper, we present a configurable and scalable architecture, based on our Distributed Network Processor (DNP) IP Library, targeting systems ranging from single MPSoCs to massive HPC platforms. The DNP provides inter-tile services for both on-chip and off-chip communications with a uniform RDMA style API, over a multi-dimensional direct network with a (possibly) hybrid topology.

The Resource Description Framework (RDF) is continuing to grow outside the bounds of its initial function as a metadata framework and into the domain of general-purpose data modeling. This expansion has been facilitated by the continued increase in the capacity and speed of RDF database repositories known as triple-stores. High-end RDF triple-stores can hold and process on the order of 10 billion triples. In an effort to provide a seamless integration of the data contained in RDF repositories, the Linked Data community is providing specifications for linking RDF data sets into a universal distributed graph that can be traversed by both man and machine. While the seamless integration of RDF data sets is important, at the scale of the data sets that currently exist and will ultimately grow to become, the download and index philosophy of the World Wide Web will not so easily map over to the Semantic Web. This essay discusses the importance of adding a distributed RDF process infrastructure to the current distributed RDF data structure.
