The current knowledge of the abundance pattern in delta Scuti stars is based on the analysis of just a few field stars. We aim to determine the general chemical properties of the atmospheres of delta Scuti stars based on a statistically relevant sample of stars and will investigate whether the abundance pattern is close to solar, an assumption generally made for pulsation models. We have analysed high-resolution, high signal-to-noise ratio spectra of seven field delta Scuti stars. We derived the fundamental parameters and the photospheric abundances and compared them to a similar sample of cluster delta Scuti stars. With the use of a t-test we demonstrated that there is no difference between the two samples, which allows us to merge them, resulting in a sample of fifteen delta Scuti stars. We did not find any substantial difference between the abundance pattern of our sample of delta Scuti stars and a sample of normal early A- and late F-type stars. One field star in our sample, HD 124953, is most likely a pulsating Am star.

We present new photometric data for seven high-amplitude delta Scuti stars. The observations were acquired between 1996 and 2002, mostly in the Johnson photometric system. For one star (GW UMa), our observations are the first since the discovery of its pulsational nature from the Hipparcos data.The primary goal of this project was to update our knowledge on the period variations of the target stars. For this, we have collected all available photometric observations from the literature and constructed decades-long O-C diagrams of the stars. This traditional method is useful because of the single-periodic nature of the light variations. Text-book examples of slow period evolution (XX Cyg, DY Her, DY Peg) and cyclic period changes due to light-time effect (LITE) in a binary system (SZ Lyn) are updated with the new observations. For YZ Boo, we find a period decrease instead of increase. The previously suggested LITE-solution of BE Lyn (Kiss & Szatmary 1995) is not supported with the new O-C diagram. Instead of that, we suspect the presence of transient light curve shape variations mimicking small period changes.
We have performed a frequency analysis of 10,092 Delta Scuti-type stars detected in the fourth phase of the Optical Gravitational Lensing Experiment (OGLE) towards the Galactic bulge, which is the most numerous homogeneous sample of Delta Scuti stars observed so far. The main goal was to search for stars pulsating in at least two radial modes simultaneously. We have found 3083 candidates for such stars, which is the largest set obtained to date. Among them, 2655 stars pulsate in two radial modes, 414 stars pulsate in three radial modes, and 14 stars pulsate in four radial modes at the same time. We report the identification of 221 Delta Scuti stars pulsating in the fundamental mode, first overtone, and third overtone simultaneously. We show the most populated Petersen and Bailey diagrams and discuss statistical properties of the identified frequencies based on this numerous sample. Additionally, we present theoretical predictions of period ratios for Delta Scuti stars pulsating in overtones from the fourth to the seventh.
A comparison between the oscillation frequencies of six multi-periodic Delta Scuti stars of the Pleiades cluster and the eigenfrequencies of rotating stellar models that match the corresponding stellar parameters has been carried out. The assumption that all the stars considered have some common parameters, such as metallicity, distance or age, is imposed as a constraint. As a result, we have a best fit solution associated with a cluster metallicity of [Fe/H] ~ 0.067, an age between 70x10^6 and 100x10^6 yr and a distance modulus of mv-Mv=5.60-5.70 mag. All the stars were found to oscillate mainly in non-radial, low degree, low order p modes. Estimates of mass and rotation rates for each star are also obtained
Low frequency oscillation, typical for Gamma Doradus g-mode type stellar core sensitive pulsation, as well as higher frequency Delta Scuti type pulsation typical for p-modes, sensitive to the envelope, make HD 8801 a remarkable hybrid pulsator with the potential to probe a stellar structure over a wide range of radius. In addition HD 8801 is a rare pulsating metallic line (Am) star. We determined the astrophysical fundamental parameters to locate HD 8801 in the HR diagram. We analyzed the element abundances, paying close attention to the errors involved, and confirm the nature of HD 8801 as a metallic line (Am) star. We also determined an upper limit on the magnetic field strength. Our abundance analysis is based on classical techniques, but uses for the final step a model atmosphere calculated with the abundances determined by us. We also discuss spectropolarimetric observations obtained for HD 8801. This object is remarkable in several respects. It is a non-magnetic metallic line (Am) star, pulsating simultaneously in p- and g-modes, but also shows oscillations with periods in between these two domains, whose excitation requires explanation. Overall, the pulsational incidence in unevolved classical Am stars is believed to be quite low; HD 8801 does not conform to this picture. Finally, about 75% of Am stars are located in short-period binaries, but there is no evidence that HD 8801 has a companion.

We present statistical characteristics of 1,578 {delta} Scuti stars including nearby field stars and cluster member stars within the Milky Way. We obtained 46% of these stars (718 stars) from the works done by Rodr{i}guez and collected the remaining 54% stars (860 stars) from other literatures. We updated the entries with the latest information of sky coordinate, color, rotational velocity, spectral type, period, amplitude and binarity. The majority of our sample are well characterized in terms of typical period range (0.02-0.25 days), pulsation amplitudes (<0.5 mag) and spectral types (A-F type). Given this list of {delta} Scuti stars, we examined relations between their physical properties (i.e., periods, amplitudes, spectral types and rotational velocities) for field stars and cluster members, and confirmed that the correlations of properties are not significantly different from those reported in the Rodr{i}guezs works. All the {delta} Scuti stars are cross-matched with several X-ray and UV catalogs, resulting in 27 X-ray and 41 UV-only counterparts. These counterparts are interesting targets for further study because of their rarity and uniqueness in showing {delta} Scuti-type variability and X-ray/UV emission at the same time.
