Consistent SU(6) and SU(8) spin-flavor extensions of the SU(3) flavor Weinberg-Tomozawa (WT) meson-baryon chiral Lagrangian are constructed, which incorporate vector meson degrees of freedom. In the charmless sector, the on-shell approximation to the Bethe-Salpeter (BS) approach successfully reproduces previous SU(3) WT results for the lowest-lying s--wave negative parity baryon resonances. It also provides some information on the dynamics of heavier ones and of the lightest d-wave negative parity resonances, as e.g. the Lambda(1520). For charmed baryons the scheme is consistent with heavy quark symmetry, and our preliminary results in the strangeness-less charm C=+1 sector describe the main features of the three-star J^P=1/2^- Lambda_c(2595) and J^P=3/2^- Lambda_c(2625) resonances. We also find a second broad J^P=1/2^- state close to the Lambda_c(2595)

We introduce the flavor symmetry ${bf Z}_M times {bf Z}_N times D_4$ into the $SU(6) times SU(2)_R$ string-inspired model. The cyclic group ${bf Z}_M$ and the dihedral group $D_4$ are R symmetries, while ${bf Z}_N$ is a non-R symmetry. By imposing the anomaly-free conditions on the model, we obtain a viable solution under many phenomenological constraints coming from the particle spectra. For neutrino sector, we find a LMA-MSW solution but not SMA-MSW ones. The solution includes phenomenologically acceptable results concerning fermion masses and mixings and also concerning hierarchical energy scales including the GUT scale, the $mu$ scale and the Majorana mass scale of R-handed neutrinos.
The lepton masses and mixings are studied on the basis of string inspired $SU(6)times SU(2)_R$ model with global flavor symmetries. Provided that sizable mixings between lepton doublets $L$ and Higgsino-like fields $H_d$ with even R-parity occur and that seesaw mechanism is at work in the neutrino sector, the model can yield a large mixing angle solution with $tan theta_{12}, tan theta_{23} = O(sqrt{l})$ $({l}= 0.22)$, which is consistent with the recent experimental data on atmospheric and solar neutrinos. In the solution Dirac mass hierarchies in the neutrino sector cancel out with the heavy Majorana sector in large part due to seesaw mechanism. Hierarchical pattern of charged lepton masses can be also explained.
Massive neutrino is an evidence of new physics beyond the Standard Model. One of the well motivated new physics scenarios is a model with gauged lepton flavor symmetry. We investigate neutrino properties in the minimal SU$(3)_elltimes$SU$(3)_E$ gauged lepton flavor model. In this model, three new species of fermions are introduced to cancel gauge anomalies. These new fermions lead to a see-saw mechanism for neutrino mass generation. We impose the constraints from perturbative unitarity in 2-2 scattering processes, as well as current experimental constraints, to obtain viable neutrino spectrum. We determine the lower bound, with the SU(3)$_ell$ gauge coupling set to 1, on the lightest neutrino mass of $3.76times10^{-3},(18.9times10^{-3}),$ eV for the normal (inverted) hierarchy.

We explore a possibility to generate exotic hadrons dynamically in the scattering of hadrons. The s-wave scattering amplitude of an arbitrary hadron with the Nambu-Goldstone boson is constructed so as to satisfy the unitarity condition and the chiral low energy theorem. We find that the chiral interaction for the exotic channels is in most cases repulsive, and that the strength of the possible attractive interaction is uniquely determined. We show that the attractive interaction in exotic channels is not strong enough to generate a bound state, while the interaction in nonexotic channel generate bound states which are considered to be the origin of some resonances observed in nature.
Using recently derived results for one-loop hadronic splitting functions from a nonlocal implementation of chiral effective theory, we study the contributions from pseudoscalar meson loops to flavor asymmetries in the proton. Constraining the parameters of the regulating functions by inclusive production of $n$, $Delta^{++}$, $Lambda$ and $Sigma^{*+}$ baryons in $pp$ collisions, we compute the shape of the light antiquark asymmetry $bar{d}-bar{u}$ in the proton and the strange asymmetry $s-bar{s}$ in the nucleon sea. With these constraints, the magnitude of the $bar{d}-bar{u}$ asymmetry is found to be compatible with that extracted from the Fermilab E866 Drell-Yan measurement, with no indication of a sign change at large values of $x$, and an integrated value in the range $langle bar d-bar u rangle approx 0.09-0.17$. The $s-bar s$ asymmetry is predicted to be positive at $x > 0$, with compensating negative contributions at $x=0$, and an integrated $x$-weighted moment in the range $langle x (s-bar s) rangle approx (0.9-2.5) times 10^{-3}$.
