Let $G$ be a Lie group and $GtoAut(G)$ be the canonical group homomorphism induced by the adjoint action of a group on itself. We give an explicit description of a 1-1 correspondence between Morita equivalence classes of, on the one hand, principal 2-group $[GtoAut(G)]$-bundles over Lie groupoids and, on the other hand, $G$-extensions of Lie groupoids (i.e. between principal $[GtoAut(G)]$-bundles over differentiable stacks and $G$-gerbes over differentiable stacks). This approach also allows us to identify $G$-bound gerbes and $[Z(G)to 1]$-group bundles over differentiable stacks, where $Z(G)$ is the center of $G$. We also introduce universal characteristic classes for 2-group bundles. For groupoid central $G$-extensions, we introduce Dixmier--Douady classes that can be computed from connection-type data generalizing the ones for bundle gerbes. We prove that these classes coincide with universal characteristic classes. As a corollary, we obtain further that Dixmier--Douady classes are integral.

In this work the equivariant signature of a manifold with proper action of a discrete group is defined as an invariant of equivariant bordisms. It is shown that the computation of this signature can be reduced to its computation on fixed points sets equipped with their tubular neighborhoods. It is given a description of the equivariant vector bundles with action of a discrete group $G$ for the case when the action over the base is proper quasi-free, i.e. the stationary subgroup of any point is finite. The description is given in terms of some classifying space.
In this paper we introduce a notion of parallel transport for principal bundles with connections over differentiable stacks. We show that principal bundles with connections over stacks can be recovered from their parallel transport thereby extending the results of Barrett, Caetano and Picken, and Schreiber and Waldof from manifolds to stacks. In the process of proving our main result we simplify Schreiber and Waldorfs definition of a transport functor for principal bundles with connections over manifolds and provide a more direct proof of the correspondence between principal bundles with connections and transport functors.
In this article, we solve the problem of constructing moduli spaces of semistable principal bundles (and singul
The cohomology of the degree-$n$ general linear group over a finite field of characteristic $p$, with coefficients also in characteristic $p$, remains poorly understood. For example, the lowest degree previously known to contain nontrivial elements is exponential in $n$. In this paper, we introduce a new system of characteristic classes for representations over finite fields, and use it to construct a wealth of explicit nontrivial elements in these cohomology groups. In particular we obtain nontrivial elements in degrees linear in $n$. We also construct nontrivial elements in the mod $p$ homology and cohomology of the automorphism groups of free groups, and the general linear groups over the integers. These elements reside in the unstable range where the homology and cohomology remain poorly understood.

A nice differential-geometric framework for (non-abelian) higher gauge theory is provided by principal 2-bundles, i.e. categorified principal bundles. Their total spaces are Lie groupoids, local trivializations are kinds of Morita equivalences, and connections are Lie-2-algebra-valued 1-forms. In this article, we construct explicitly the parallel transport of a connection on a principal 2-bundle. Parallel transport along a path is a Morita equivalence between the fibres over the end points, and parallel transport along a surface is an intertwiner between Morita equivalences. We prove that our constructions fit into the general axiomatic framework for categorified parallel transport and surface holonomy.
