Potential energies, moments of inertia, quadrupole and octupole moments of dinuclear systems are compared with the corresponding quantities of strongly deformed nuclei. As dinuclear system we denote two touching nuclei (clusters). It is found that the hyperdeformed states of nuclei are close to those of nearly symmetric dinuclear systems, whereas the superdeformed states are considered as states of asymmetric dinuclear systems. The superdeformed and hyperdeformed states constructed from two touching clusters have large octupole deformations. The experimental measurement of octupole deformation of the highly deformed nuclei can answer whether these nuclei have cluster configurations as described by the dinuclear model.

The consequences of the spontaneous breaking of rotational symmetry are investigated in a field theory model for deformed nuclei, based on simple separable interactions. The crucial role of the Ward-Takahashi identities to describe the rotational sta tes is emphasized. We show explicitly how the rotor picture emerges from the isoscalar Goldstone modes, and how the two-rotor model emerges from the isovector scissors modes. As an application of the formalism, we discuss the M1 sum rules in deformed nuclei, and make connection to empirical information.
We develop a complex scaling method for describing the resonances of deformed nuclei and present a theoretical formalism for the bound and resonant states on the same footing. With $^{31}$Ne as an illustrated example, we have demonstrated the utility and applicability of the extended method and have calculated the energies and widths of low-lying neutron resonances in $^{31}$Ne. The bound and resonant levels in the deformed potential are in full agreement with those from the multichannel scattering approach. The width of the two lowest-lying resonant states shows a novel evolution with deformation and supports an explanation of the deformed halo for $^{31}$Ne.

Within the dinuclear system (DNS) conception, instead of solving Fokker-Planck Equation (FPE) analytically, the Master equation is solved numerically to calculate the fusion probability of super-heavy nuclei, so that the harmonic oscillator approxima tion to the potential energy of the DNS is avoided. The relative motion concerning the energy, the angular momentum, and the fragment deformation relaxations is explicitly treated to couple with the diffusion process, so that the nucleon transition probabilities, which are derived microscopically, are time-dependent. Comparing with the analytical solution of FPE, our results preserve more dynamical effects. The calculated evaporation residue cross sections for one-neutron emission channel of Pb-based reactions are basically in agreement with the known experimental data within one order of magnitude.

Energy levels of the four lowest bands in 160,162,164Dy and 168Er, B(E2) transition strengths between the levels, and the B(M1) strength distribution of the ground state, all calculated within the framework of pseudo-SU(3) model, are presented. Reali stic single-particle energies and quadrupole-quadrupole and pairing interaction strengths fixed from systematics were used in the calculations. The strengths of four rotor-like terms, all small relative to the other terms in the interaction, were adjusted to give an overall best fit to the energy spectra. The procedure yielded consistent parameter sets for the four nuclei.
We present an analysis based on the deformed Quasi Particle Random Phase Approximation, on top of a deformed Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov description of the ground state, aimed at studying the isoscalar monopole and quadrupole response in a deformed nucle us. This analysis is motivated by the need of understanding the coupling between the two modes and how it might affect the extraction of the nuclear incompressibility from the monopole distribution. After discussing this motivation, we present the main ingredients of our theoretical framework, and we show some results obtained with the SLy4 and SkM$^{*}$ interactions for the nucleus ${}^{24}$Mg.
