In this paper we recall the construction of scalar field action on $kappa$-Minkowski space-time and investigate its properties. In particular we show how the co-product of $kappa$-Poincare algebra of symmetries arises from the analysis of the symmetries of the action, expressed in terms of Fourier transformed fields. We also derive the action on commuting space-time, equivalent to the original one. Adding the self-interaction $Phi^4$ term we investigate the modified conservation laws. We show that the local interactions on $kappa$-Minkowski space-time give rise to 6 inequivalent ways in which energy and momentum can be conserved at four-point vertex. We discuss the relevance of these results for Doubly Special Relativity.

We describe $kappa$-Minkowski space and its relation to group theory. The group theoretical picture makes it possible to analyze the symmetries of this space. As an application of this analysis we analyze in detail free field theory on $kappa$-Minkow ski space and the Noether charges associated with deformed spacetime symmetries.

The implications of the relativistic space-time structure for a physical description by quantum mechanical wave-functions are investigated. On the basis of a detailed analysis of Bells concept of local causality, which is violated in quantum theory, we argue that this is a subtle, as well as an important effort. A central requirement appearing in relativistic quantum mechanics, namely local commutativity, is analyzed in detail and possible justifications are given and discussed. The complexity of the implications of wave function reduction in connection with Minkowski space-time are illustrated by a quantum mechanical measurement procedure which was proposed by Aharonov and Albert. This procedure and its relativistic implications are explicitly analyzed and discussed in terms of state evolution. This analysis shows that the usual notion of state evolution fails in relativistic quantum theory. Two possible solutions of this problem are given. In particular, it is shown that also a theory with a distinguished foliation of space-time into space-like leafs - accounting for nonlocality - makes the right predictions for the Aharonov-Albert experiment. We will repeatedly encounter that an analysis of the wave-function alone does not suffice to answer the question of relativistic compatibility of the theory, but that the actual events in space time, which are predicted and described by the theory, are crucial. This paper is devoted to detailed investigations of free scalar field theory on $kappa$-Minkowski space. After reviewing necessary mathematical tools we discuss in depth the Lagrangian and solutions of field equations. We analyze the spacetime symmet ries of the model and construct the conserved charges associated with translational and Lorentz symmetry. We show that the version of the theory usually studied breaks Lorentz invariance in a subtle way: There is an additional trans-Planckian mode present, and an associated conserved charge (the number of such modes) is not a Lorentz scalar.
We show that depending on the direction of deformation of $kappa$-Poincare algebra (time-like, space-like, or light-like) the associated phase spaces of single particle in Doubly Special Relativity theories have the energy-momentum spaces of the form of de Sitter, anti-de Sitter, and flat space, respectively.
The current status of Doubly Special Relativity research program is shortly presented. I dedicate this paper to my teacher and friend Professor Jerzy Lukierski on occasion of his seventieth birthday.
