Spin-polarized currents play a key role in spintronics. Recently, it has been found that antiferromagnets with a non-spin-degenerate band structure can efficiently spin-polarize electric currents, even though their net magnetization is zero. Among the antiferromagnetic metals with magnetic space group symmetry supporting this functionality, the noncollinear antiferromagnetic antiperovskites ANMn$_3$ (A = Ga, Ni, Sn, and Pt) are especially promising. This is due to their high Neel temperatures and a good lattice match to perovskite oxide substrates, offering possibilities of high structural quality heterostructures based on these materials. Here, we investigate the spin polarization of antiferromagnetic ANMn$_3$ metals using first-principles density functional theory calculations. We find that the spin polarization of the longitudinal currents in these materials is comparable to that in widely used ferromagnetic metals, and thus can be exploited in magnetic tunnel junctions and spin transfer torque devices. Moreover, for certain film growth directions, the out-of-plane transverse spin currents with a giant charge-to-spin conversion efficiency can be achieved, implying that the ANMn$_3$ antiperovskites can be used as efficient spin sources. These properties make ANMn$_3$ compounds promising for application in spintronics.

We propose a new type of spin-valley locking (SVL), named $textit{C}$-paired SVL, in antiferromagnetic systems, which directly connects the spin/valley space with the real space, and hence enables both static and dynamical controls of spin and valley to realize a multifunctional antiferromagnetic material. The new emergent quantum degree of freedom in the $textit{C}$-paired SVL is comprised of spin-polarized valleys related by a crystal symmetry instead of the time-reversal symmetry. Thus, both spin and valley can be accessed by simply breaking the corresponding crystal symmetry. Typically, one can use a strain field to induce a large net valley polarization/magnetization and use a charge current to generate a large noncollinear spin current. We predict the realization of the $textit{C}$-paired SVL in monolayer V$_2$Se$_2$O, which indeed exhibits giant piezomagnetism and can generate a large transverse spin current. Our findings provide unprecedented opportunities to integrate various controls of spin and valley with nonvolatile information storage in a single material, which is highly desirable for versatile fundamental research and device applications.
Non-collinear antiferromagnetic materials have received dramatically increasing attention in the field of spintronics as their exotic topological features such as the Berry-curvature-induced anomalous Hall effect and possible magnetic Weyl states cou ld be utilized in future topological antiferromagnetic spintronic devices. In this work, we report the successful integration of the antiferromagnetic metal Mn3Sn thin films onto ferroelectric oxide PMN-PT. By optimizing growth, we realized the large anomalous Hall effect with small switching magnetic fields of several tens mT fully comparable to those of bulk Mn3Sn single crystals, anisotropic magnetoresistance and negative parallel magnetoresistance in Mn3Sn thin films with antiferromagnetic order, which are similar to the signatures of the Weyl state in bulk Mn3Sn single crystals. More importantly, we found that the anomalous Hall effect in antiferromagnetic Mn3Sn thin films can be manipulated by electric fields applied onto the ferroelectric materials, thus demonstrating the feasibility of Mn3Sn-based topological spintronic devices operated in an ultralow power manner.
Non-collinear antiferromagnets exhibits richer magneto-transport properties due to the topologically nontrivial spin structure they possess compared to conventional nonmagnetic materials, which allows us to manipulate the charge-spin conversion more freely by taking advantage of the chirality. In this work, we explore the unconventional spin orbit torque of L1$_2$-ordered Mn$_3$Pt with a triangular spin structure. We observed an unconventional spin orbit torque along the $mathbf{x}$-direction for the (001)-oriented L1$_2$ Mn$_3$Pt, and found that it has a unique sign reversal behavior relative to the crystalline orientation. This generation of unconventional spin orbit torque for L1$_2$-ordered Mn$_3$Pt can be interpreted as stemming from the magnetic spin Hall effect. This report help clarify the correlation between the topologically nontrivial spin structure and charge-spin conversion in non-collinear antiferromagnets.
We investigate the impact of pinned antiferromagnetic order on the decoherence of spin current in polycrystalline IrMn. In NiFe/Cu/IrMn/CoFe multilayers, we coherently pump an electronic spin current from NiFe into IrMn, whose antiferromagnetic order is globally pinned by static exchange-bias coupling with CoFe. We observe no anisotropic spin decoherence with respect to the orientation of the pinned antiferromagnetic order. We also observe no difference in spin decoherence for samples with and without pinned antiferromagnetic order. Moreover, although there is a pronounced resonance linewidth increase in NiFe that coincides with the switching of IrMn/CoFe, we show that this is not indicative of anisotropic spin decoherence in IrMn. Our results demonstrate that the decoherence of electron-mediated spin current is remarkably insensitive to the magnetization state of the antiferromagnetic IrMn spin sink.

Valleytronics is rapidly emerging as an exciting area of basic and applied research. In two dimensional systems, valley polarisation can dramatically modify physical properties through electron-electron interactions as demonstrated by such phenomena as the fractional quantum Hall effect and the metal-insulator transition. Here, we address the electrons spin alignment in a magnetic field in silicon-on-insulator quantum wells under valley polarisation. In stark contrast to expectations from a non-interacting model, we show experimentally that less magnetic field can be required to fully spin polarise a valley-polarised system than a valley-degenerate one. Furthermore, we show that these observations are quantitatively described by parameter free ab initio quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We interpret the results as a manifestation of the greater stability of the spin and valley degenerate system against ferromagnetic instability and Wigner crystalisation which in turn suggests the existence of a new strongly correlated electron liquid at low electron densities.
