We use Higgs bundles to study the 3d $mathcal{N} = 1$ vacua obtained from M-theory compactified on a local $Spin(7)$ space given as a four-manifold $M_4$ of ADE singularities with further generic enhancements in the singularity type along one-dimensional subspaces. There can be strong quantum corrections to the massless degrees of freedom in the low energy effective field theory, but topologically robust quantities such as parity anomalies are still calculable. We show how geometric reflections of the compactification space descend to 3d reflections and discrete symmetries. The parity anomalies of the effective field theory descend from topological data of the compactification. The geometric perspective also allows us to track various perturbative and non-perturbative corrections to the 3d effective field theory. We also provide some explicit constructions of well-known 3d theories, including those which arise as edge modes of 4d topological insulators, and 3d $mathcal{N} = 1$ analogs of grand unified theories. An additional result of our analysis is that we are able to track the spectrum of extended objects and their transformations under higher-form symmetries.

Adinkras are graphs that encode a supersymmetric representations transformation laws that have been reduced to one dimension, that of time. A goal of the supersymmetry ``genomics project is to classify all 4D, $mathcal{N}=1$ off-shell supermultiplets in terms of their adinkras. In~previous works, the genomics project uncovered two fundamental isomer adinkras, the cis- and trans-adinkras, into which all multiplets investigated to date can be decomposed. The number of cis- and trans-adinkras describing a given multiplet define the isomer-equivalence class to which the multiplet belongs. A further refining classification is that of a supersymmetric multiplets holoraumy: the commutator of the supercharges acting on the representation. The one-dimensionally reduced, matrix representation of a multiplets holoraumy defines the multiplets holoraumy-equivalence class. Together, a multiplets isomer-equivalence and holoraumy-equivalence classes are two of the main characteristics used to distinguish the adinkras associated with different supersymmetry multiplets in higher dimensions. This paper focuses on two matter gravitino formulations, each with 20 bosonic and 20 fermionic off-shell degrees of freedom, analyzes them in terms of their isomer- and holoraumy-equivalence classes, and compares with non-minimal supergravity which is also a 20x20 multiplet. This analysis fills a missing piece in the supersymmetry genomics project, as now the isomer-equivalence and holoraumy-equivalence for representations up to spin two in component fields have been analyzed for 4D, $mathcal{N}=1$ supersymmetry. To handle the calculations of this research effort, we have used the Mathematica software package called Adinkra.m. This package is open-source and available for download at a GitHub Repository. Data files associated with this paper are also published open-source at a Data Repository also on GitHub.
We give a classification of fully supersymmetric chiral ${cal N}=(8,0)$ AdS$_3$ vacua in general three-dimensional half-maximal gauged supergravities coupled to matter. These theories exhibit a wealth of supersymmetric vacua with background isometrie s given by the supergroups OSp$(8|2,mathbb{R})$, F(4), SU$(4|1,1)$, and OSp$(4^*|4)$, respectively. We identify the associated embedding tensors and the structure of the associated gauge groups. We furthermore compute the mass spectra around these vacua. As an off-spin we include results for a number of ${cal N}=(7,0)$ vacua with supergroups OSp$(7|2,mathbb{R})$ and G$(3)$, respectively. We also comment on their possible higher-dimensional uplifts.
We calculate the exact eigenvalues of the adjoint scalar fields in the massive vacua of N=1* SUSY Yang-Mills with gauge group SU(N). This provides a field theory prediction for the distribution of D3 brane charge in the AdS dual. We verify the propos al of Polchinski and Strassler that the D3-branes lie on a fuzzy sphere in the supergravity limit and determine the corrections to this distribution due to worldsheet and quantum effects. The calculation also provides several new results concerning the equilibrium configurations of the N-body Calogero-Moser Hamiltonian.
We propose Swampland constraints on consistent 5-dimensional ${cal N}=1$ supergravity theories. We focus on a special class of BPS magnetic monopole strings which arise in gravitational theories. The central charges and the levels of current algebras of 2d CFTs on these strings can be calculated by anomaly inflow mechanism and used to provide constraints on the low-energy particle spectrum and the effective action of the 5d supergravity based on unitarity of the worldsheet CFT. In M-theory, where these theories are realized by compactification on Calabi-Yau 3-folds, the special monopole strings arise from wrapped M5-branes on special (semi-ample) 4-cycles in the threefold. We identify various necessary geometric conditions for such cycles to lead to requisite BPS strings and translate these into constraints on the low-energy theories of gravity. These and other geometric conditions, some of which can be related to unitarity constraints on the monopole worldsheet, are additional candidates for Swampland constraints on 5-dimensional ${cal N}=1$ supergravity theories.

We discuss the effective Chern-Simons levels for 3d $mathcal{N}=2$ gauge theories and their relations to the relative angles between NS5-brane and NS5-brane. We find that turning on real masses for chiral multiplets leads to various equivalent brane webs that are related by flipping the sign of mass parameters. This flip can be interpreted as 3d mirror symmetry for abelian theories. Each of these webs has a corresponding mathematical quiver structure. We check the equivalence of vortex partition functions for these brane webs by implementing topological vertex method. In addition, we compute the vortex partition functions of nonabelian theories with gauge group $U(N)$ and find the associated quiver structures and brane webs. We find that on Higgs branch nonabelian brane webs are broken to abelian brane webs with gauge group $U(1)^{otimes N}$. We also discuss the Ooguri-Vafa invariants for nonabelian theories and the movement of flavor D5-branes that leads to equivalent brane webs.
