The theta-dependent gauge theories can be studied by using holographic duality through string theory on certain spacetimes. Via this correspondence we consider a stack of $N_{0}$ dynamical D0-branes as D-instantons in the background sourced by $N_{c}$ coincident non-extreme black D4-branes. According to the gauge-gravity duality this D0-D4 brane system corresponds to Yang-Mills theory with a theta angle at finite temperature. We solve the IIA supergravity action by taking account into a sufficiently small backreaction of the D-instantons and obtain an analytical solution for our D0-D4-brane configuration. Then the dual theory in the large $N_{c}$ limit can be holographically investigated with the gravity solution. In the dual field theory, we find the coupling constant exhibits the property of asymptotic freedom as it is expected in QCD. The contribution of the theta-dependence to the free energy gets suppressed at high temperature which is basically consistent with the calculation by using the Yang-Mills instanton. The topological susceptibility in the large $N_{c}$ limit vanishes and this behavior remarkably agrees with the implications from the simulation results at finite temperature. Besides we finally find a geometrical interpretation of the theta-dependence in this holographic system.

We present a formulation of N=(1,1) super Yang-Mills theory in 1+1 dimensions at finite temperature. The partition function is constructed by finding a numerical approximation to the entire spectrum. We solve numerically for the spectrum using Supers ymmetric Discrete Light-Cone Quantization (SDLCQ) in the large-N_c approximation and calculate the density of states. We find that the density of states grows exponentially and the theory has a Hagedorn temperature, which we extract. We find that the Hagedorn temperature at infinite resolution is slightly less than one in units of (g^(2) N_c/pi)^(1/2). We use the density of states to also calculate a standard set of thermodynamic functions below the Hagedorn temperature. In this temperature range, we find that the thermodynamics is dominated by the massless states of the theory.
The finite-temperature behavior of gluon and of Faddeev-Popov-ghost propagators is investigated for pure SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in Landau gauge. We present nonperturbative results, obtained using lattice simulations and Dyson-Schwinger equations. Po ssible limitations of these two approaches, such as finite-volume effects and truncation artifacts, are extensively discussed. Both methods suggest a very different temperature dependence for the magnetic sector when compared to the electric one. In particular, a clear thermodynamic transition seems to affect only the electric sector. These results imply in particular the confinement of transverse gluons at all temperatures and they can be understood inside the framework of the so-called Gribov-Zwanziger scenario of confinement.
Euclidean strong coupling expansion of the partition function is applied to lattice Yang-Mills theory at finite temperature, i.e. for lattices with a compactified temporal direction. The expansions have a finite radius of convergence and thus are val id only for $beta<beta_c$, where $beta_c$ denotes the nearest singularity of the free energy on the real axis. The accessible temperature range is thus the confined regime up to the deconfinement transition. We have calculated the first few orders of these expansions of the free energy density as well as the screening masses for the gauge groups SU(2) and SU(3). The resulting free energy series can be summed up and corresponds to a glueball gas of the lowest mass glueballs up to the calculated order. Our result can be used to fix the lower integration constant for Monte Carlo calculations of the thermodynamic pressure via the integral method, and shows from first principles that in the confined phase this constant is indeed exponentially small. Similarly, our results also explain the weak temperature dependence of glueball screening masses below $T_c$, as observed in Monte Carlo simulations. Possibilities and difficulties in extracting $beta_c$ from the series are discussed.
Euclidean two-point correlators of the energy-momentum tensor (EMT) in SU(3) gauge theory on the lattice are studied on the basis of the Yang-Mills gradient flow. The entropy density and the specific heat obtained from the two-point correlators are s hown to be in good agreement with those from the one-point functions of EMT. These results constitute a first step toward the first principle simulations of the transport coefficients with the gradient flow.

In this work, we extend the construction of dual color decomposition in Yang-Mills theory to one-loop level, i.e., we show how to write one-loop integrands in Yang-Mills theory to the dual DDM-form and the dual trace-form. In dual forms, integrands a re decomposed in terms of color-ordered one-loop integrands for color scalar theory with proper dual color coefficients. In dual DDM decomposition, The dual color coefficients can be obtained directly from BCJ-form by applying Jacobi-like identities for kinematic factors. In dual trace decomposition, the dual trace factors can be obtained by imposing one-loop KK relations, reflection relation and their relation with the kinematic factors in dual DDM-form.
