In the Einestein-dilaton theory with a Liouville potential parameterized by $eta$, we find a Schwarzschild-type black hole solution. This black hole solution, whose asymptotic geometry is described by the warped metric, is thermodynamically stable only for $0 le eta < 2$. Applying the gauge/gravity duality, we find that the dual gauge theory represents a non-conformal thermal system with the equation of state depending on $eta$. After turning on the bulk vector fluctuations with and without a dilaton coupling, we calculate the charge diffusion constant, which indicates that the life time of the quasi normal mode decreases with $eta$. Interestingly, the vector fluctuation with the dilaton coupling shows that the DC conductivity increases with temperature, a feature commonly found in electrolytes.

We examine the hydrodynamic limit of non-conformal branes using the recently developed precise holographic dictionary. We first streamline the discussion of holography for backgrounds that asymptote locally to non-conformal brane solutions by showing that all such solutions can be obtained from higher dimensional asymptotically locally AdS solutions by suitable dimensional reduction and continuation in the dimension. As a consequence, many holographic results for such backgrounds follow from the corresponding results of the Asymptotically AdS case. In particular, the hydrodynamics of non-conformal branes is fully determined in terms of conformal hydrodynamics. Using previous results on the latter we predict the form of the non-conformal hydrodynamic stress tensor to second order in derivatives. Furthermore we show that the ratio between bulk and shear viscosity is fixed by the generalized conformal structure to be zeta/eta = 2(1/(d-1) - c_s^2), where c_s is the speed of sound in the fluid.

Using and comparing kinetic theory and second-order Chapman-Enskog hydrodynamics, we study the non-conformal dynamics of a system undergoing Bjorken expansion. We use the concept of `free-streaming fixed lines for scaled shear and bulk stresses in no n-conformal kinetic theory and hydrodynamics, and show that these `fixed lines behave as early-time attractors and repellors of the evolution. In the conformal limit, the free-streaming fixed lines reduce to the well-known fixed points of conformal Bjorken dynamics. A new fixed point in the free streaming regime is identified which lies at the intersection of these fixed lines. Contrary to the conformal scenario, both kinetic theory and hydrodynamics predict the absence of attractor behavior in the normalised shear stress channel. In kinetic theory a far-off-equilibrium attractor is found for the normalised effective longitudinal pressure, driven by rapid longitudinal expansion. Second-order viscous hydrodynamics fails to accurately describe this attractor. From a thorough analysis of the free-streaming dynamics in Chapman-Enskog hydrodynamics we conclude that this failure results from an inaccurate approximation of the fixed lines and a related incorrect description of the nature of the fixed point. A modified anisotropic hydrodynamic description is presented that provides excellent agreement with kinetic theory results and reproduces the far-from-equilibrium attractor for the scaled longitudinal pressure.
A higher order theory of dilaton gravity is constructed as a generalization of the Einstein-Lovelock theory of pure gravity. Its Lagrangian contains terms with higher powers of the Riemann tensor and of the first two derivatives of the dilaton. Never theless, the resulting equations of motion are quasi-linear in the second derivatives of the metric and of the dilaton. This property is crucial for the existence of brane solutions in the thin wall limit. At each order in derivatives the contribution to the Lagrangian is unique up to an overall normalization. Relations between symmetries of this theory and the O(d,d) symmetry of the string-inspired models are discussed.
We show how logarithmic terms may arise in the correlators of fields which belong to the representation of the Schrodinger-Virasoro algebra (SV) or the affine Galilean Conformal Algebra (GCA). We show that in GCA, only scaling operator can have a Jor danian form and rapidity can not. We observe that in both algebras logarithmic dependence appears along the time direction alone.

We write down a Schwinger-Keldysh effective field theory for non-relativistic (Galilean) hydrodynamics. We use the null background construction to covariantly couple Galilean field theories to a set of background sources. In this language, Galilean h ydrodynamics gets recast as relativistic hydrodynamics formulated on a one-dimension higher spacetime admitting a null Killing vector. This allows us to import the existing field-theoretic techniques for relativistic hydrodynamics into the Galilean setting, with minor modifications to include the additional background vector field. We use this formulation to work out an interacting field theory describing stochastic fluctuations of energy, momentum, and density modes around thermal equilibrium. We also present a translation of our results to the more conventional Newton-Cartan language and discuss how the same can be derived via a non-relativistic limit of the effective field theory for relativistic hydrodynamics.
