We present near-infrared H and K-band spectro-interferometric observations of the gaseous disk around the primary Be star in the delta Sco binary system, obtained in 2007 (between periastron passages in 2000 and 2011). Observations using the CHARA/MIRC instrument at H-band resolve an elongated disk with a Gaussian FWHM 1.18 x 0.91 mas. Using the Keck Interferometer, the source of the K-band continuum emission is only marginally spatially resolved, and consequently we estimate a relatively uncertain K-band continuum disk FWHM of 0.7 +/- 0.3 mas. Line emission on the other hand, He1 (2.0583 micron) and Br gamma (2.1657 micron), is clearly detected, with about 10% lower visibilities than those of the continuum. When taking into account the continuum/line flux ratio this translates into much larger sizes for the line emission regions: 2.2 +/- 0.4 mas and 1.9 +/- 0.3 mas for He1 and Br gamma respectively. Our KI data also reveal a relatively flat spectral differential phase response, ruling out significant off-center emission. We expect these new measurements will help constrain dynamical models being actively developed in order to explain the disk formation process in the delta Sco system and Be stars in general.

We present an analysis of the near-infrared continuum emission from the circumstellar gas disks of Be stars using a radiative transfer code for a parametrized version of the viscous decretion disk model. This isothermal gas model creates predicted im ages that we use to estimate the HWHM emission radius along the major axis of the projected disk and the spatially integrated flux excess at wavelengths of 1.7, 2.1, 4.8, 9, and 18 ?m. We discuss in detail the effect of the disk base density, inclination angle, stellar effective temperature, and other physical parameters on the derived disk sizes and color excesses. We calculate color excess estimates relative to the stellar V -band flux for a sample of 130 Be stars using photometry from 2MASS and the AKARI infrared camera all-sky survey. The color excess relations from our models make a good match of the observed color excesses of Be stars. We also present our results on the projected size of the disk as a function of wavelength for the classical Be star ? Tauri, and we show that the model predictions are consistent with interferometric observations in the H, K, and 12 mu m bands.
We present a detailed visible and near-IR spectro-interferometric analysis of the Be-shell star $omicron$ Aquarii from quasi-contemporaneous CHARA/VEGA and VLTI/AMBER observations. We measured the stellar radius of $omicron$ Aquarii as 4.0 $pm$ 0.3 $ mathrm{R_{odot}}$. We constrained the disk geometry and kinematics using a kinematic model and a MCMC fitting procedure. The disk sizes in H$alpha$ and Br$gamma$ were found to be similar, at $sim$10-12 $mathrm{D_{star}}$, which is uncommon since most results for Be stars show a larger extension in H$alpha$ than in Br$gamma$. We found that the inclination angle $i$ derived from H$alpha$ is significantly lower ($sim$15 deg) than the one derived from Br$gamma$. The disk kinematics were found to be near to the Keplerian rotation in Br$gamma$, but not in H$alpha$. After analyzing all our data using a grid of HDUST models (BeAtlas), we found a common physical description for the disk in both lines: $Sigma_{0}$ = 0.12 g cmtextsuperscript{-2} and $m$ = 3.0. The stellar rotational rate was found to be very close ($sim$96%) to the critical value. Our analysis of multi-epoch H$alpha$ profiles and imaging polarimetry indicates that the disk has been stable for at least 20 years. Compared to Br$gamma$, the data in H$alpha$ shows a substantially different picture that cannot fully be understood using the current physical models of Be star disks. $omicron$ Aquarii presents a stable disk, but the measured $m$ is lower than the standard value in the VDD model for steady-state. Such long-term stability can be understood in terms of the high rotational rate for this star, the rate being a main source for the mass injection in the disk. Our results on the stellar rotation and disk stability are consistent with results in the literature showing that late-type Be stars are more likely to be fast rotators and have stable disks.
Colliding stellar winds in massive binary systems have been studied through their radio, optical lines and strong X-ray emission for decades. More recently, near-infrared spectrointerferometric observations have become available in a few systems, but isolating the contribution from the individual stars and the wind collision region still remains a challenge. In this paper, we study the colliding wind binary gamma2 Velorum and aim at identifying the wind collision zone from infrared interferometric data, which provide unique spatial information to determine the wind properties. Our analysis is based on multi-epoch VLTI/AMBER data that allows us to separate the spectral components of both stars. First, we determine the astrometric solution of the binary and confirm previous distance measurements. We then analyse the spectra of the individual stars, showing that the O star spectrum is peculiar within its class. Then, we perform three-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of the system from which we extract model images, visibility curves and closure phases which can be directly compared with the observed data. The hydrodynamic simulations reveal the 3D spiral structure of the wind collision region, which results in phase-dependent emission maps. Our model visibility curves and closure phases provide a good match when the wind collision region accounts for 3 to 10 per cent of the total flux in the near infrared. The dialogue between hydrodynamic simulations, radiative transfer models and observations allows us to fully exploit the observations. Similar efforts will be crucial to study circumstellar environments with the new generation of VLTI instruments like GRAVITY and MATISSE.

We study the Be star $delta$ Cen circumstellar disk using long-baseline interferometry which is the only observing technique capable of resolving spatially and spectroscopically objects smaller than 5 mas in the H and K b and. We used the VLTI/AMBER instrument on January 6, 8, and 9, 2008, in the H and K bands to complete low (35) and medium (150 0) spectral resolution observations. We detected an oscillation in the visibility curve plotted as a function of the spatial frequency which is a clear signat ure of a companion around $delta$ Cen. Our best-fit soltution infers a binary separation of 68.7 mas, a companion flux co ntribution in the K band of about 7% of the total flux, a PA of 117.5 $degr$, and an envelope flux around the Be primary that contributes up to about 50 % of the total flux, in agreement with our Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) fit. The e nvelope size is estimated to be 1.6 mas in K but no departure from spherical symmetry is detected.
We present interferometric observations of the Be star Zeta Tau obtained using the MIRC beam combiner at the CHARA Array. We resolved the disk during four epochs in 2007-2009. We fit the data with a geometric model to characterize the circumstellar d isk as a skewed elliptical Gaussian and the central Be star as a uniform disk. The visibilities reveal a nearly edge-on disk with a FWHM major axis of ~ 1.8 mas in the H-band. The non-zero closure phases indicate an asymmetry within the disk. Interestingly, when combining our results with previously published interferometric observations of Zeta Tau, we find a correlation between the position angle of the disk and the spectroscopic V/R ratio, suggesting that the tilt of the disk is precessing. This work is part of a multi-year monitoring campaign to investigate the development and outward motion of asymmetric structures in the disks of Be stars.
