A doped graphene layer in the integer quantum Hall regime reveals a highly unusual particle-hole excitation spectrum, which is calculated from the dynamical polarizability in the random phase approximation. We find that the elementary neutral excitations in graphene in a magnetic field are unlike those of a standard two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG): in addition to the upper-hybrid mode, the particle-hole spectrum is reorganized in linear magneto-plasmons that disperse roughly parallel to $omega=v_F q$, instead of the usual horizontal (almost dispersionless) magneto-excitons. These modes could be detected in an inelastic light scattering experiment.

The magnetic field dependence of the excitonic states in unstrained GaAs/AlGaAs quantum dots is investigated theoretically and experimentally. The diamagnetic shift for the ground and the excited states are studied in magnetic fields of varying orien tation. In the theoretical study, calculations are performed within the single band effective mass approximation, including band nonparabolicity, the full experimental three-dimensional dot shape and the electron-hole Coulomb interaction. These calculations are compared with the experimental results for both the ground and the excited states in fields up to 50 Tesla. Good agreement is found between theory and experiment.
The electrodynamics of a two-dimensional gas of massless fermions in graphene is studied by a collisionless hydrodynamic approach. A low-energy dispersion relation for the collective modes (plasmons) is derived both in the absence and in the presence of a perpendicular magnetic field. The results for graphene are compared to those for a standard two-dimensional gas of massive electrons. We further compare the results within the classical hydrodynamic approach to the full quantum mechanical calculation in the random phase approximation. The low-energy dispersion relation is shown to be a good approximation at small wave vectors. The limitations of this approach at higher order is also discussed.
Strong increase in the intensity of the peaks of excited magneto-exciton (ME) states in the photoluminescence excitation (PLE) spectra recorded for the ground heavy-hole magneto-excitons (of the 1sHH type) has been found in a GaAs/AlGaAs superlattice in strong magnetic field B applied normal to the sample layers. While varying B the intensities of the PLE peaks have been measured as functions of energy separation $Delta E$ between excited ME peaks and the ground state of the system. The resonance profiles have been found to have maxima at $Delta E_{rm max}$ close to the energy of the GaAs LO-phonon. However, the value of $Delta E_{rm max}$ depends on quantum numbers of the excited ME state. The revealed very low quantum efficiency of the investigated sample allows us to ascribe the observed resonance to the enhancement of the non-radiative magneto-exciton relaxation rate arising due to LO-phonon emission. The presented theoretical model, being in a good agreement with experimental observations, provides a method to extract 1sHH magneto-exciton ``in-plane dispersion from the dependence of $Delta E_{rm max}$ on the excited ME state quantum numbers.
Graphene has raised high expectations as a low-loss plasmonic material in which the plasmon properties can be controlled via electrostatic doping. Here, we analyze realistic configurations, which produce inhomogeneous doping, in contrast to what has been so far assumed in the study of plasmons in nanostructured graphene. Specifically, we investigate backgated ribbons, co-planar ribbon pairs placed at opposite potentials, and individual ribbons subject to a uniform electric field. Plasmons in backgated ribbons and ribbon pairs are similar to those of uniformly doped ribbons, provided the Fermi energy is appropriately scaled to compensate for finite-size effects such as the divergence of the carrier density at the edges. In contrast, the plasmons of a ribbon exposed to a uniform field exhibit distinct dispersion and spatial profiles that considerably differ from uniformly doped ribbons. Our results provide a road map to understand graphene plasmons under realistic electrostatic doping conditions.

We develop covariant chiral kinetic theory with Landau level basis. We use it to investigate a magnetized plasma with a transverse electric field and a steady vorticity as perturbations. After taking into account vacuum shift in the latter case, we f ind the resulting current and stress tensor in both cases can be matched consistently with constitutive equations of magnetohydrodynamics. We find the solution in the vorticity case contains both shifts in temperature and chemical potential as well as excitations of the lowest Landau level states. The solution gives rise to an vector charge density and axial current density. The vacuum parts coming from both shifts and excitations agree with previous studies and the medium parts coming entirely from excitations leads to a new contribution to vector charge and axial current density consistent with standard chiral vortical effect.
