R. Hirota and K. Kimura discovered integrable discretizations of the Euler and the Lagrange tops, given by birational maps. Their method is a specialization to the integrable context of a general discretization scheme introduced by W. Kahan and applicable to any vector field with a quadratic dependence on phase variables. According to a proposal by T. Ratiu, discretizations of the Hirota-Kimura type can be considered for numerous integrable systems of classical mechanics. Due to a remarkable and not well understood mechanism, such discretizations seem to inherit the integrability for all algebraically completely integrable systems. We introduce an experimental method for a rigorous study of integrability of such discretizations. Application of this method to the Hirota-Kimura type discretization of the Clebsch system leads to the discovery of four functionally independent integrals of motion of this discrete time system, which turn out to be much more complicated than the integrals of the continuous time system. Further, we prove that every orbit of the discrete time Clebsch system lies in an intersection of four quadrics in the six-dimensional phase space. Analogous results hold for the Hirota-Kimura type discretizations for all commuting flows of the Clebsch system, as well as for the $so(4)$ Euler top.

For several of the most complicated cases for which integrability is known (Clebsch system, Kirchhoff system, and Lagrange top), - we give nice compact formulas for some of the more complicated integrals of motion and for the density of the invariant measure, and - we establish the existence of higher order Wronskian Hirota-Kimura bases, generating the full set of integrals of motion. While the first set of results admits nice algebraic proofs, the second one relies on computer algebra.

A space discretization of an integrable long wave-short wave interaction model, called the Yajima-Oikawa system, was proposed in the recent paper arXiv:1509.06996 using the Hirota bilinear method (see also https://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevE.91 .062902). In this paper, we propose a Lax-pair representation for the discrete Yajima-Oikawa system as well as its multicomponent generalization also considered in arXiv:1509.06996 and prove that it has an infinite number of conservation laws. We also derive the next higher flow of the discrete Yajima-Oikawa hierarchy, which generalizes a modified version of the Volterra lattice. Relations to two integrable discrete nonlinear Schrodinger hierarchies, the Ablowitz-Ladik hierarchy and the Konopelchenko-Chudnovsky hierarchy, are clarified.
We prove that integrability of a dispersionless Hirota type equation implies the symplectic Monge-Ampere property in any dimension $geq 4$. In 4D this yields a complete classification of integrable dispersionless PDEs of Hirota type through a list of heavenly type equations arising in self-dual gravity. As a by-product of our approach we derive an involutive system of relations characterising symplectic Monge-Ampere equations in any dimension. Moreover, we demonstrate that in 4D the requirement of integrability is equivalent to self-duality of the conformal structure defined by the characteristic variety of the equation on every solution, which is in turn equivalent to the existence of a dispersionless Lax pair. We also give a criterion of linerisability of a Hirota type equation via flatness of the corresponding conformal structure, and study symmetry properties of integrable equations.
In the series of recent publications we have proposed a novel approach to the classification of integrable differential/difference equations in 3D based on the requirement that hydrodynamic reductions of the corresponding dispersionless limits are `i nherited by the dispersive equations. In this paper we extend this to the fully discrete case. Our only constraint is that the initial ansatz possesses a non-degenerate dispersionless limit (this is the case for all known Hirota-type equations). Based on the method of deformations of hydrodynamic reductions, we classify discrete 3D integrable Hirota-type equations within various particularly interesting subclasses. Our method can be viewed as an alternative to the conventional multi-dimensional consistency approach.
We study to unify soliton systems, KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon, through SO(2,1) $cong$ GL(2,$mathbb R$) $cong$ M{o}bius group point of view, which might be a keystone to exactly solve some special non-linear differential equations. If we construct the $N$-s oliton solutions through the KdV type B{a}cklund transformation, we can transform different KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon equations and the B{a}cklund transformations of the standard form into the same common Hirota form and the same common B{a}cklund transformation except the equation which has the time-derivative term. The difference is only the time-dependence and the main structure of the $N$-soliton solutions has same common form for KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon systems. Then the $N$-soliton solutions for the sinh-Gordon equation is obtained just by the replacement from KdV/mKdV $N$-soliton solutions. We also give general addition formulae coming from the KdV type B{a}cklund transformation which plays not only an important role to construct the trigonometric/hyperbolic $N$-soliton solutions but also an essential role to construct the elliptic $N$-soliton solutions. In contrast to the KdV type B{a}cklund transformation, the well-known mKdV/sinh-Gordon type B{a}cklund transformation gives the non-cyclic symmetric $N$-soliton solutions. We give an explicit non-cyclic symmetric 3-soliton solution for KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon equations.
