An Anderson impurity in a Hubbard model on chains with finite length is studied using the density-matrix renormalization group (DMRG) technique. In the first place, we analyzed how the reduction of electron density from half-filling to quarter-filling affects the Kondo resonance in the limit of Hubbard repulsion U=0. In general, a weak dependence with the electron density was found for the local density of states (LDOS) at the impurity except when the impurity, at half-filling, is close to a mixed valence regime. Next, in the central part of this paper, we studied the effects of finite Hubbard interaction on the chain at quarter-filling. Our main result is that this interaction drives the impurity into a more defined Kondo regime although accompanied in most cases by a reduction of the spectral weight of the impurity LDOS. Again, for the impurity in the mixed valence regime, we observed an interesting nonmonotonic behavior. We also concluded that the conductance, computed for a small finite bias applied to the leads, follows the behavior of the impurity LDOS, as in the case of non-interacting chains. Finally, we analyzed how the Hubbard interaction and the finite chain length affect the spin compensation cloud both at zero and at finite temperature, in this case using quantum Monte Carlo techniques.

We study the one-dimensional Anderson-Hubbard model using the density-matrix renormalization group method. The influence of disorder on the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid behavior is quantitatively discussed. Based on the finite-size scaling analysis of d ensity-density correlation functions, we find the following results: i) the charge exponent is significantly reduced by disorder at low filling and near half filling, ii) the localization length decays as $xi sim Delta^{-2}$, where $Delta$ is the disorder strength, independently of the on-site Coulomb interaction as well as band filling, and iii) the localization length is strongly suppressed by the on-site Coulomb interaction near half filling in association with the formation of the Mott plateaus.

We study the two-impurity Anderson model on finite chains using numerical techniques. We discuss the departure of magnetic correlations as a function of the interimpurity distance from a pure 2k_F oscillation due to open boundary conditions. We obser ve qualitatively different behaviors in the interimpurity spin correlations and in transport properties at different values of the impurity couplings. We relate these different behaviors to a change in the relative dominance between the Kondo effect and the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yoshida (RKKY) interaction. We also observe that when RKKY dominates there is a definite relation between interimpurity magnetic correlations and transport properties. In this case, there is a recovery of 2k_F periodicity when the on-site Coulomb repulsion on the chain is increased at quarter-filling. The present results could be relevant for electronic nanodevices implementing a non-local control between two quantum dots that could be located at variable distance along a wire.
We study the interplay of disorder and correlation in the one-dimensional hole-doped Hubbard-model with disorder (Anderson-Hubbard model) by using the density-matrix renormalization group method. Concentrating on the doped-hole density profile, we fi nd in a large $U/t$ regime that the clean system exhibits a simple fluid-like behavior whereas finite disorders create locally Mott regions which expand their area with increasing the disorder strength contrary to the ordinary sense. We propose that such an anomalous Mott phase formation assisted by disorder is observable in atomic Fermi gases by setup of the box shape trap.
Using time-dependent density-matrix renormalization group, we study the time evolution of electronic wave packets in the one-dimensional extended Hubbard model with on-site and nearest neighbor repulsion, U and V, respectively. As expected, the wave packets separate into spin-only and charge-only excitations (spin-charge separation). Charge and spin velocities exhibit non-monotonic dependence on V. For small and intermediate values of V, both velocities increase with V. However, the charge velocity exhibits a stronger dependence than that of the spin, leading to a more pronounced spin-charge separation. Charge fractionalization, on the other hand, is weakly affected by V. The results are explained in terms of Luttinger liquid theory in the weak-coupling limit, and an effective model in the strong-coupling regime.
We study the charge conductivity of the one-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model at finite temperature using the method of dynamical quantum typicality, focusing at half filling. This numerical approach allows us to obtain current autocorrelation func tions from systems with as many as 18 sites, way beyond the range of standard exact diagonalization. Our data clearly suggest that the charge Drude weight vanishes with a power law as a function of system size. The low-frequency dependence of the conductivity is consistent with a finite dc value and thus with diffusion, despite large finite-size effects. Furthermore, we consider the mass-imbalanced Hubbard model for which the charge Drude weight decays exponentially with system size, as expected for a non-integrable model. We analyze the conductivity and diffusion constant as a function of the mass imbalance and we observe that the conductivity of the lighter component decreases exponentially fast with the mass-imbalance ratio. While in the extreme limit of immobile heavy particles, the Falicov-Kimball model, there is an effective Anderson-localization mechanism leading to a vanishing conductivity of the lighter species, we resolve finite conductivities for an inverse mass ratio of $eta gtrsim 0.25$.
