This letter of intent proposes an experiment to search for an electric dipole moment of the muon based on the frozen-spin technique. We intend to exploit the high electric field, $E=1{rm GV/m}$, experienced in the rest frame of the muon with a momentum of $p=125 {rm MeV/}c$ when passing through a large magnetic field of $|vec{B}|=3{rm T}$. Current muon fluxes at the $mu$E1 beam line permit an improved search with a sensitivity of $sigma(d_mu)leq 6times10^{-23}e{rm cm}$, about three orders of magnitude more sensitivity than for the current upper limit of $|d_mu|leq1.8times10^{-19}e{rm cm}$,(C.L. 95%). With the advent of the new high intensity muon beam, HIMB, and the cold muon source, muCool, at PSI the sensitivity of the search could be further improved by tailoring a re-acceleration scheme to match the experiments injection phase space. While a null result would set a significantly improved upper limit on an otherwise un-constrained Wilson coefficient, the discovery of a muon EDM would corroborate the existence of physics beyond the Standard Model.

We present upper limits on the production of heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) decaying to $mu pi$ pairs using data collected with the MicroBooNE liquid-argon time projection chamber (TPC) operating at Fermilab. This search is the first of its kind perfor med in a liquid-argon TPC. We use data collected in 2017 and 2018 corresponding to an exposure of $2.0 times 10^{20}$ protons on target from the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam, which produces mainly muon neutrinos with an average energy of $approx 800$ MeV. HNLs with higher mass are expected to have a longer time-of-flight to the liquid-argon TPC than Standard Model neutrinos. The data are therefore recorded with a dedicated trigger configured to detect HNL decays that occur after the neutrino spill reaches the detector. We set upper limits at the $90%$ confidence level on the element $lvert U_{mu4}rvert^2$ of the extended PMNS mixing matrix in the range $lvert U_{mu4}rvert^2<(6.6$-$0.9)times 10^{-7}$ for Dirac HNLs and $lvert U_{mu4}rvert^2<(4.7$-$0.7)times 10^{-7}$ for Majorana HNLs, assuming HNL masses between $260$ and $385$ MeV and $lvert U_{e 4}rvert^2 = lvert U_{tau 4}rvert^2 = 0$.
Measuring the depolarization rate of a $^3$He hyperpolarized gas is a sensitive method to probe hypothetical short-range spin-dependent forces. A dedicated experiment is being set up at the Institute Laue Langevin in Grenoble to improve the sensitivi ty. We presented the status of the experiment at the 10th PATRAS Workshop on Axions, WIMPs and WISPs.
Axion Like Particles (ALPs) with a sub-keV range mass are searched by using the light-shining-through-a-wall technique. A novel system is developed in which injected X rays are converted and reconverted by the Laue-case conversion within a silicon si ngle crystal with dual blades. The resonant ALPs mass of the conversion is scanned by varying the X-ray injection angle to the crystal. No significant signals are observed, and 90% C. L. upper limits on the ALP-two photon coupling constant are obtained as follows, g_{agammagamma} < 4.2 times 10^{-3} GeV^{-1} (m_a < 10 eV), g_{agammagamma} < 5.0 times 10^{-3} GeV^{-1} (46 eV < m_a < 1020 eV). These are the most stringent laboratorial constraints on ALPs heavier than 300 eV.

We report an experimental search for an exotic spin-spin-velocity-dependent interaction between polarized electrons of Rb atoms and polarized electrons of a solid-state mass, violating both the time-reversal and parity symmetries. This search targets a minute effective magnetic field induced by the interaction. A spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) magnetometer based on an optically polarized Rb vapor is the key element for both a source of polarized electrons and a high-sensitivity detector. A dysprosium iron garnet (DyIG) serves as the polarized mass, with an extremely small magnetization at the critical temperature around 240 K and a high spin density. To reduce the magnetization, one of major systematic effects, a home-built cooling system controls the mass temperature. To our knowledge, this is the first search for an exotic spin-dependent interaction using the compensated ferrimagnet DyIG as a polarized mass. The experiment set the most stringent limit on the electron-electron coupling strength in the centimeter interaction range, in particular $g_V^e g_V^e <10^{4}$ at $lambda=2$ cm.

We report the first results from the GammeV search for chameleon particles, which may be created via photon-photon interactions within a strong magnetic field. Chameleons are hypothesized scalar fields that could explain the dark energy problem. We i mplement a novel technique to create and trap the reflective particles within a jar and to detect them later via their afterglow as they slowly convert back into photons. These measurements provide the first experimental constraints on the couplings of chameleons to photons.
