For a finite-index $mathrm{II}_1$ subfactor $N subset M$, we prove the existence of a universal Hopf $ast$-algebra (or, a discrete quantum group in the analytic language) acting on $M$ in a trace-preserving fashion and fixing $N$ pointwise. We call this Hopf $ast$-algebra the quantum Galois group for the subfactor and compute it in some examples of interest, notably for arbitrary irreducible finite-index depth-two subfactors. Along the way, we prove the existence of universal acting Hopf algebras for more general structures (tensors in enriched categories), in the spirit of recent work by Agore, Gordienko and Vercruysse.

In this paper, we study modular categories whose Galois group actions on their simple objects are transitive. We show that such modular categories admit unique factorization into prime transitive factors. The representations of $SL_2(mathbb{Z})$ asso ciated with transitive modular categories are proven to be minimal and irreducible. Together with the Verlinde formula, we characterize prime transitive modular categories as the Galois conjugates of the adjoint subcategory of the quantum group modular category $mathcal{C}(mathfrak{sl}_2,p-2)$ for some prime $p > 3$. As a consequence, we completely classify transitive modular categories. Transitivity of super-modular categories can be similarly defined. A unique factorization of any transitive super-modular category into s-simple transitive factors is obtained, and the split transitive super-modular categories are completely classified.

We describe all fusion subcategories of the representation category of a twisted quantum double of a finite group. In view of the fact that every group-theoretical braided fusion category can be embedded into a representation category of a twisted qu antum double of a finite group, this gives a complete description of all group-theoretical braided fusion categories. We describe the lattice and give formulas for some invariants of the fusion subcategories of representation category of a twisted quantum double of a finite group. We also give a characterization of group-theoretical braided fusion categories as equivariantizations of pointed categories.

We compute the group of braided tensor autoequivalences and the Brauer-Picard group of the representation category of the small quantum group $mathfrak{u}_q(mathfrak{g})$, where $q$ is a root of unity.
A unitary fusion category is called $mathbb{Z}/2mathbb{Z}$-quadratic if it has a $mathbb{Z}/2mathbb{Z}$ group of invertible objects and one other orbit of simple objects under the action of this group. We give a complete classification of $mathbb{Z}/ 2mathbb{Z}$-quadratic unitary fusion categories. The main tools for this classification are skein theory, a generalization of Ostriks results on formal codegrees to analyze the induction of the group elements to the center, and a computation similar to Larsons rank-finiteness bound for $mathbb{Z}/3mathbb{Z}$-near group pseudounitary fusion categories. This last computation is contained in an appendix coauthored with attendees from the 2014 AMS MRC on Mathematics of Quantum Phases of Matter and Quantum Information.
